Keeping up with the Cases

Our number one priority continues to be keeping students, staff, and families safe, healthy, and able to attend class each day. The current surge in COVID cases within our community is having a significant impact on our ability to process COVID-related communication to families. We are so fortunate to have an office staff dedicated to expediting these communications by taking on many of the responsibilities of the District contact tracing team. Not every school has the ability to do this. We understand how the uncertainty of waiting to hear about return dates for students is stressful. Many of us have children in school ourselves and have experienced what you may be going through. Thank you for your patience as we work as quickly and thoroughly as possible through the numerous steps involved in tracking, tracing, and processing each case.

Here are some helpful links and information that might help:

  • Need to report an absence or symptoms?

    • Please utilize our Online Absence Reporting Tool

    • Symptomatic students may return with a negative PCR or Rapid Test (At home tests also accepted through January 27), fever free for 24 hours without medications, and improvement of symptoms.

  • Need to submit COVID Test Results to Fletcher Elementary?

    • Please utilize our COVID Test Reporting Tool

    • Results will be processed from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    • After results are processed, you will receive an email clearing them to return to school.

  • Has your student tested positive?

    • They must remain home and follow the quarantine procedures.

      Option A
      : 10-day quarantine: 10 full days at home, return on day 11, no further testing needed.
      Option B: 5-day quarantine: 5 full days at home, return on day 6 UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS

Our vaccine clinic returns in next week on Tuesday, January 25th. No appointments are required. Primary, secondary, and booster COVID vaccines are available along with Flu vaccines. We will be open from 2PM-6PM.

Tutoring Team is a GO!

This week we officially launched our before/after school tutoring program to support students with accelerating their reading abilities. HUGE shout-out to Ms. Yamashita, Ms. Monge, Ms. Wee, Mrs. Sperry, and Mrs. Hinch for taking this first group of 28 students under their wings. Our goal as a school is to have all students reading at or above grade level by the end of the year no matter where they started. With half the year left, we feel confident about reaching this lofty goal.

Perimeter Security Project Breaks Ground

This week our long-awaited perimeter security project finally broke ground. This project will upgrade our perimeter security with additional fencing separating the campus from the joint-use agreement park and add an additional layer of security in the front of the school. The office will also have access to upgraded camera surveillance and remote access to the entrance gate. The first phase of the project involves rerouting irrigation lines in the park and building an ADA accessible walkway from the park entrance to the blacktop. It should take approximately three weeks to complete. The second phase of fencing installation will begin as soon as the materials arrive, which could be anywhere from four to eight weeks from now. The second phase will take between four to six weeks to complete. Pictured here is Project Lead, Tim Perkins, with Straightline Construction. Budget Priorities Survey Response Deadline Extended

Thank you to everyone who took the few minutes to fill out our budget priority survey this week. We're extending the endpoint for receiving responses until Sunday night. The results of the survey will be shared School Site Council and the staff as a whole on Wednesday for further recommendations. Later in February, Principals receive their school budget for the next year. Using the feedback from families and staff, Principals then work to allocate sufficient funding in the budget to meet the needs of the site.

Student of the Week - Lana!

This week's Student of the Week is Lana in Ms. Wee's 4th grade class! She is recognized for being an a diligent student who takes strong responsibility for her own learning and growth. Lana displays extraordinary leadership skills. When she notices other students struggling, she will take the lead and help them out to the best of her ability. Lana also respects her peers and is a positive role model to all her classmates. Lana works really hard to achieve her goals in becoming a "strong and better writer" as she always says. Congratulations Lana, and thank you for being a phenomenal Falcon!

Report an Absence Online

Although we want students to be in school each day for class, we know that absences will happen. It is important that parents report their student's absence within 24 hours. Absences can be reported via our online form, phone or email. Please let us know if you have any questions and thank you for your support.

San Diego Unified School District now has a new testing site for all students and staff. If your student is showing symptoms at home or at school, this new resource will provide a quick and easy way to get test results so they can return to school as soon as possible. Testing will now be available at the Education Center located at 4100 Normal Street, 92103. It's only FIVE MILES away from Fletcher!

The site is open from 7:00AM - 7:00PM MONDAY through FRIDAY and 8:00AM - 5:00PM on Saturday and Sunday. No appointments necessary! Prior to testing, if your student isn't already registered to receive weekly testing on site, families will need to register for a Primary Health Portal account.
