Reading & Language Workshop

Readers began Unit 3: Relationships this week with our first book Duke Ellington. The story has a lot of figurative language as well as language from the time period that Duke Ellington lived in. Reading lessons this week have been focused on finding the theme in a story, play, or poem. Teachers have noticed a great deal of growth in this area! We will be assessing the students on Tuesday of next week to see how students are doing and targeting areas that need more support. Ask your child what book they are currently reading. Can they determine a theme in the book and support it with evidence from the text?

Writing Workshop

In writing we are continuing to work on our informational writing unit. This unit will focus on writing a five paragraph essay on a topic each student chose. They will do research and write a five paragraph essay that will then be put into the “Rose Glen Newsbrief”, a newsbrief template created by students and published using Green Screen technology!

Math Workshop

Mathematicians are currently working on mastering multi-digit multiplication with either the area model or partial products strategies. Both strategies are efficient and it is up to the individual student as to which strategy they prefer. Next week, and the week following Thanksgiving, we will be modeling different division strategies. Mathematicians should expect an assessment on multiplication and division either December 6th or December 9th.
