Oh Say Can You See...

The Importance of American Symbols?

Project Idea

Our 3rd graders were asked how they could show the importance of American symbols and the famous Americans associated with those symbols to fellow students at B.B Comer Elementary School. We researched six symbols and Americans including: the American flag and Betsy Ross, the Statue of Liberty and Frederic Bartholdi, The National Anthem and Francis Scott Key, The Declaration of Independence and Thomas Jefferson and The Statue of Lady Justice and Sandra Day O' Connor. There was a two part culminating activity. The first was creating presentations using Google Slides and the second was a Veteran's Day Program for the community held at B.B. Comer Elementary where they presented facts about the symbols, sang patriotic songs and listened to two Veterans who spoke to our audience.
