A Weekly Newsletter From Grant School & the Grant PTA
Week of December 1, 2020
Dearest Grant Community,
Thanks to the generous grant given to us by Petaluma Education Foundation, we are excited to bring social-emotional learning (SEL) to Grant School this year through the Changing Perspectives curriculum. Changing Perspectives is an educational nonprofit organization with a mission of promoting social-emotional learning to cultivate inclusive and equitable communities for all students.
SEL is an essential component of every child’s education and development. Intentional SEL instruction motivates students and positions them to engage meaningfully in educational, professional, personal, and civic opportunities in diverse communities and workplaces. When schools prioritize SEL, they see better cohort test scores, greater personal academic achievement, higher graduation rates, more satisfaction among educators, less bullying and isolation, and a stronger sense of community.
Over the next several weeks, students will be engaging in a variety of lessons and activities to develop, refine, and gain new skills under the SEL umbrella. SEL is organized into five core competencies:
We know that the most growth happens for our students when there is a strong connection between what is being taught in class and what is being reinforced at home. In order to begin this dialogue, we are hosting a parent education night on December 10th to discuss your questions and possible challenges around the topic of your students' social-emotional learning and development. This is an optional zoom event.

Support the Grant PTA for #GivingTuesday!
It’s #GivingTuesday and what better way to give back than to give to @GrantElementaryPTA? In these uncertain times, our staff and PTA are going above and beyond to support the Grant Community. The PTA purchases all the supplies for students supports the ongoing technology improvements on campus holds community events (such as our upcoming Winter Wonderland event), and more! Due to the pandemic, we don’t anticipate being able to hold our biggest fundraisers—the Auction and Jog-a-Thon. It’s donations like yours that will allow us to continue to support the students at Grant. Please consider donating. We need your support!
