BARBER BULLETIN
Pontiac Elementary December 7-11, 2015
R2 Read to Read
Collection containers are being set up all over the district in community and school locations. These books that are collected will be stored at the district warehouse and Pontiac's K-2 students will receive 8-10 books at the end of the school year to take home to add to their home library collection!
Anyone can make a cash donation to support this cause! (10) books can be purchased for $40. Checks can be made to the R2 Education Foundation. Please encourage community partnerships and other stakeholders to drop off new books in our school container or in book collection containers across the district.

WINTER DAYS
In connection with Spring Valley, Student Council is collecting
items for “Helping the Homeless” and for needy children.
Toiletry items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths,
shaving cream, deodorant, travel sized shampoo & conditioner, etc
are needed for the Homeless.
For the children at Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, we are looking to stuff Stockings
with small toys, wrapped candy, novelty pens or pencils,
jewelry, books, small hand-held games, a small stuffed animal, etc.
We will be collecting until Friday, December 14th.
Congratulations, Melissa Olivares
The goal of the project is to bridge the gap for second language learners and empower parents to effectively participate in their child’s literacy development.
Why?
Although children seem to learn new languages very quickly, without a strong cognitive foundation in their first language, children learning a second language "will tend to take much longer to acquire cognitive academic language skills in the second language" (Ramirez et.al, 1991).
