Reopening Plan Update

Superintendent Denise Coleman shared an update regarding Union School District’s reopening efforts. You can view the presentation slides here.

USD is currently in Stage 2 of the reopening stages, providing instruction and distance learning support on campuses for small groups in addition to distance learning. At the end of the status update, Superintendent Coleman shared the following timeline for moving to future stages.

Big picture

In the coming month, we will begin to transition to in-person instruction with the goal of having students back on campus for in-person instruction in January. TK-1st grade students will begin in December with Meet and Greet sessions during which students will have a chance to meet their teacher in person and learn the routines of campus.

USD will be following all health and safety requirements established by the State and County Health departments and outlined in the district’s approved Reopening Guide including:

Maintaining small stable cohorts and minimize mixing with other student groups

Daily student home health screening and on-site spot checks

Face coverings will be required for staff and students per County Health Guidelines

No large gatherings (i.e., assemblies) will be allowed

Protocols and signage will be provided for healthy practices

Sanitizing and disinfecting on a frequent basis

Frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing will be practiced

To help plan for how many students may be returning to in-person instruction, I will need every parent to complete this survey (one for each child) by October 30th.

Thank you!

Halloween Happenings

Principal's Pumpkin Challenge

Halloween might look a little different in 2020, but the fun of pumpkin carving and decorating is still a must-do so I've made it my principal's challenge for this month. This will be a fun family project that will run for two weeks, October 19th-31st. Be as creative as you can imagine. I can't wait to see what the students come up with. Pumpkin pictures can be uploaded here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/RwrhsbGbmss65Yoz9 (please upload photos by 5 pm November 1st)

Oster's Halloween virtual parade

I will be creating a virtual Halloween parade for the students, staff, and community. If you would like to share your child's picture with me to include in the parade please upload it here by Wednesday, October 28th by 5 pm: https://photos.app.goo.gl/RwrhsbGbmss65Yoz9

Please note:

Nothing scary, no blood, gore, or weapons, and costumes must be modest.
