Emily Carr
June 2015
Message from Administration
Thank you for your letters/emails regarding our class building for the 2015-2016 school year. Currently our projected enrolment translates into the following: 7 FDK classes, 11 Primary classes, 10 Junior classes, and 6 Intermediate classes. Please let the office know if your family will be moving out of the Emily Carr area over the summer. Class lists will once again be posted on the front doors of the school on Friday, September 4th after 1:00pm. Also, as you meet new neighbours moving into the area, please encourage them to register either before July 2nd or beginning August 24th .
Congratulations to our Grade 8 Band! They won Gold at both Provincials and Nationals - a great honour bestowed upon our great musicians. Thank you Mrs. Barber for being an integral part in helping our students succeed.
The construction site is about to look a bit different over the next few weeks. Asphalt is scheduled to be laid on June 5th with a new kindergarten fenced in area to be erected soon afterwards.
Lost and Found
ATTENTION PARENTS!
Is your child missing clothing items??
Please take a moment to stop by the school and look through the Lost & Found.
All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity at the end of June 2015.
Please help us return these valuable items to the rightful owners.
Thank you!
On June 11th Emily Carr students are participating in a Right to Play day. Visit the school website or click on the above link for more information.
Walk and Wheel Wednesday's
Participate to WIN!
EC families! Time to pump up those bike tires and give biking to school a try!
This is the perfect week to kick start a new 'active' transportation habit and get wheeling.
Remember, that bikes are vehicles when on the road, so use the bike lanes and obey all traffic signals.
Check out the MTO's Cycling Guide here: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/pdfs/cycling-skills.pdf

If biking isn't your thing, why not put some SPRING in your step and ditch the car for your running shoes instead!
Join us for Walk & Wheel Wednesday's on May 27th, June 3rd and 10th. Our Walk & Wheel signs will be out and the sidewalks decorated.
Hope to see you all on the sidewalks for some healthy, active living that is good for kids, parents and the planet!
Participate to WIN!
Every 'active' transportation commute between May 27th and June10th earns each student a chance to win a $50 Cycle Path Gift Card and a special treat for their whole class! Ballots will be distributed in class and can be deposited in the office ballot box. Winner and classroom will be announced June 17th.

ME TO WE:
Our We Create Change Campaign was a huge success. Big thanks to the community for all their support. We are in the process of counting out the money and a final total will be ready shortly. Thanks you for helping create sustainable improvements in developing nations.
Together WE have made a difference.
"Walk for Leukemia"
On June 16th at 1pm, our Emily Carr community will be walking in support of families and students affected by Leukemia. We will be gathering on the soccer field next to our school and walking its perimeter to raise awareness and donations for the cause. Students are asked to wear green to show their support. $2.00 donations will be collected and donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. Thank you!
