A Letter From Dr. Tennies, Our Principal
Hello May! Did we just blink? This year flew by! And now, we are planning several celebrations to finish up our time together. Field Day, on May 10th is an open invitation to join us for fun and games outside. Mrs. Waters, our PE Teacher and chief organizer, is always looking for volunteers. Step Up Day, on May13th, is a time for students to catch a peek at the next grade level by visiting the teachers in the next grade up during Class Meeting time. Our teachers share some of the exciting activities that kids can look forward to when making the move to the next grade.
One of my favorite activities is a May celebration called Teacher Appreciation. It is celebrated nationally and is next week. It is a time to thank a teacher who made a difference. Sometimes a simple “thank you,” a hand-made card or a flower from the garden can mean a lot to someone who pours their time and energy into children everyday. Hopefully, we can all remember a teacher who built a special connection when we were young and made a difference in our own lives. The one teacher who challenged you, made you try harder, but still made you feel cherished and special left a legacy for you.
I feel blessed to have known many exceptional teachers in my early learning days. Miss Williams noticed how much I loved to write, and read everything eagerly. Mr. Daugherty was the math teacher who did not let me settle for less than my best, and Miss Swieger was an incredible coach and always pushed me past what I thought I could do. We have an incredible group of dedicated teachers here at Chestatee. I know you have noticed because we have received hundreds of Teacher of the Month nominations this year! Being a teacher is a wonderful calling and one to be celebrated. Let’s join together in our gratitude for our amazing teachers!
Kindly,
Dr. Polly Tennies

Teacher/ Staff Member of the Month Nominations
Congratulations to April Teacher of the Month-Amanda Schwartz
We are proud to announce Amanda Schwartz as our April Teacher of the Month!
Amanda received nominations from parents, students, and staff. Nominations stated that she is an outstanding teacher and “all in” for the kids. She makes learning fun, partners with families, teaches enrichment, and is part of our leadership team. She also does everything with a smile. One parent even referred to Amanda as an “Organized Acrobat” because she juggles her family and teaching so well! We are truly grateful that Mrs. Schwartz teaches at Chestatee!
This is Mrs. Schwartz's 6th year at Chestatee and her 10th year of teaching. Mrs. Schwartz graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She also received her Master's in Educational Technology from Lesley University and her Specialist's in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College. She has taught 4th, 1st, and 2nd grades. Amanda is married to Brad, and they have 3 children: Matthew, Tucker, and Evelynne. Their oldest child, Matthew, attends kindergarten at Chestatee.
