Henderson County Schools to Honor Leaders during School Board Recognition Month
The Henderson County Board of Education is composed of Lisa Baird, Mike Waller, Tracey Williams, Dr. Sally Sugg, and Wes Smith.
“The voters of our community have created a special group of education leaders in this board,” said Superintendent, Marganna Stanley. “They are true partners in the work to ensure every child in every classroom can experience high quality teaching and learning.”
“When you consider how state and federal funding is shrinking, our school board has faced tremendous challenges, and members haven’t flinched from their responsibilities,” Stanley affirmed. “Our community can be very proud of this team of board members, and I’m proud to be their partner working for education excellence for our children.”
Across the Commonwealth, Kentucky’s 173 public school systems will use January to recognize the work of the state’s 867 local school board members.
“School board members across Kentucky have faced numerous and growing challenges the past few years, and this year has been a particularly challenging one,” said KSBA President David Webster, chairman of the Simpson County Board of Education. “As I traveled the state last fall, I saw the dedication in every local school board member to make Kentucky’s schools among the tops in the nation to ensure our children can be competitive wherever they may go. I am very proud to be a local school board member in Kentucky.”
The members of the school board will be recognized at the January 22nd Board of Education meeting.
2018-2019 Henderson County School Calendar
The Board of Education approved the calendar on December 18th at the regularly scheduled board meeting.
Extraordinary HCS Staff Spotlight
The program is designed for women working in P-12 public education who are entering or advancing their careers. KWEL members will benefit from leadership development opportunities, career advancement, shared experiences through a network of on-going professional growth and development, coaching and mentoring, and a support system that recognizes women who are exemplary leaders.
Applicants were chosen based on specific leadership criteria. These leaders, along with 30 of the state’s top female executive educators, will convene January 19-20 in Louisville for a leadership forum and induction ceremony.

Immunization Update
A recent amendment to the Kentucky Administrative Regulation on the immunization schedules for attending school added new immunization requirements for the school year beginning July 1, 2018.
Starting July 1, 2018 Kentucky will be requiring all students in kindergarten through
grade twelve to provide proof of having received two doses of hepatitis A vaccine to attend school.
Administration of the hepatitis A vaccine has been encouraged for several years so some children in our community may already have this vaccine. However, because the hepatitis A vaccine is newly required for ALL students attending Kentucky public schools, parents/guardians are encouraged to confirm their child's status and/or schedule immunizations now to ensure compliance before the 2018-2019 school year.
Since the minimum spacing between the two doses is six months, families are asked to complete the following steps this month to ensure their child is compliant with this new regulation prior to the start of the new school year on August 8, 2018:
- Consult with your child's healthcare provider to ensure that these vaccines have been given to your child, or make an appointment to begin the vaccination series.
- Obtain an updated Kentucky Immunization Certificate from your provider.
- Turn in a copy of current Immunization record to your child's school.
In addition, all students age 16 and older must show proof of having received two doses of meningococcal ACWY vaccine (also called MenACWY or Meningitis Booster) to attend school. This is required even if the student received the booster between the ages of 11 and 15. If your child has not previously received a dose of the vaccine and is age 16 or older, only one dose is required.
Prior to the start of the new school year on August 8, 2018:
- Consult with your child's healthcare provider to ensure that these vaccines have been given to your child, or make an appointment to begin the vaccination series.
- Obtain an updated Kentucky Immunization Certificate from your provider.
- Turn in a copy of a current Immunization record to your child's school.
For more information about the new immunization requirements, please contact your child's health care provider or your school nurse.
