Spain Mediterranean coast
The Balearic Islands: Just off the coast of Catalonia and a 45-minute flight from Barcelona, this rocky, sand-fringed archipelago attracts urban refugees seeking the sun, jet-set glitterati, and exhibitionists in scanty beachwear. The Mediterranean climate is warmer here than on the mainland. The city of Palma de Majorca has the greatest number of high-rises and the most crowded shorelines.
Pic dels Aspres is a mountain in the northwest of the principality of Andorra close to the border with Spain. The nearest town is La Massana. Some 250 metres below the summit is a round cirque, approximately 100 metres in diameter, which was formed by glacial erosion during the Last Glacial Maximum and which is now a lake, Estany de les Truites.
