Energizing for the End of the School Year, Eyeing the Next

Workshop #1: Tools of Creation - Simple Ways to Make Books & eBooks - May 12, 2016

This K - 8 workshop focuses on showing teachers how to they can use simple, commonly available digital tools to create professional print books and ebooks. The tools of the 21st century can be used to help our students to become producers of content that can be added to the classroom math center, school library, or be taken home.

The goals of the workshop are to show teachers how to:

  • Create a math related print book and an ebook.

  • Use book projects to motivate students to model real-life math connections and applications.

  • Develop an action plan for creating a print book or ebook before the end of the school year!

Workshop #2: The Power of Mathematical Play - May 25, 2016

The end of the school year is a great time to try out new and engaging ideas that will energize you for the upcoming school year. This 1-day, grades 3 - 5 workshop, focuses on looking at pedagogical structures that you can use throughout the school-year to:

  • Build and practice fluencies, beyond the basic facts.
  • Play word problem games to deepen comprehension.
  • Transform workbook pages into rich, collaborative experiences.

Facilitator: Christine King

Christine King is a K - 8 Math Consultant and Technology Integration Specialist with over 20 years of experience as an educator. As a Teach for America alumni, Christine adheres to the belief that all children can learn given appropriate tools and effective, research-based instruction. She works with schools and districts across the country on elementary and middle school math curriculum, test-savvy strategies, technology integration for incorporating and reinforcing 21st century skills, and mathematical best practices.

Christine holds a Master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is the author of The Digits Game, N3 No Naked Numbers, Test-Savvy Math, 12 Strategies for Understanding Word Problems and Picture This.
