Brampton Transit Transportation
Presto Card or Monthly Pass?
What's Your Situation?
Your new school/workplace is fairy distant from your home and you don't want to spend money on gas to drive there everyday. Instead, you've made the decision to ride the local public transit, the Brampton Transit, to get to your destination. The problem is that you don't know whether to purchase the Presto card or the monthly pass, and you want to select the option that saves your money.
What's Option 1?
The first option for regular long-distance travel on the Brampton Transit is the Presto card. The card costs $6 as a base fee. The cost for each bus ride is $2.50/2hrs. That's a total of $5 a day, $2.50 on the way to your destination and $2.50 on the way back. This option is good for someone who wants to pay based the number of rides they have.
What's Option 2?
Another option for travelling via Brampton Transit is puchasing a monthly pass. There is a only base fee of $105/month and that's it. There's no other fee that depends on how many times you ride. This option is good for someone who will ride the bus regularly because even if you don't ride on a day, the money will still have been paid for it.
The graph below will display a comparison between both options in regards to costs. The green line represents the costs for riding the transit with a Presto card per day in one month. The blue line represents the cost for riding the transit with a monthly pass in one month. The x-axis is the number of days and the y-axis is the cost. The point of intersection is where both option cost the same.
Now that you've seen the comparison graph, it'll be easier to make your decision. The point where both options have spent the same amount of money is 20 days. This means that based on the graph, if you are going to be riding the transit for more than 20 days in a month, the option of buying the monthly pass is a better choice for you. But if you are going to be riding the transit for less than 20 days in a month, the option of buying a Presto card is the greater decision for you.
