Worthington Kilbourne Weekly News
Week of September 20, 2021
Each year we have a New Student breakfast for all students new to the Worthington City School District. Our counselors arrange for them to have an opportunity to sit in a circle, eat donuts, and share a little bit about themselves. This past week we had 30 students attend and we learned so much about them. We have students from Cleveland, Warren, Miami, Florida, Sudan, Brazil, Mexico, France, and many other places. It is always a nice surprise when students realize they are not the only students in our school from a particular region/country and the instant connections made are priceless.
Our counselors provide questions that invite them to share about their previous schools and activities. They ask them about what they like about WKHS and what they wish we had. Students are eager to share a little bit about their lives and it is fun to connect. Before we finish we group them into their assigned lunch period groups; that way they know at least one other person who eats during their lunch period.
We all come from different backgrounds and our experiences help shape our character. Some of these students have come to WKHS with limited English speaking ability and some have never been in public school. Imagine being thrust into a situation where you don't have any comforts you are used to having and everything seems foreign. Look for ways to connect with one another; it is needed more than ever.
Sincerely,
Aric Thomas, Principal / athomas@wscloud.org / 614-450-6400

Guidelines from the Health Office: When to keep a student home from school
As we return to a normal schedule with all students attending school daily it is extremely important NOT to send your student to school if they are sick and not feeling well. A daily health check is required for parents and students to complete each morning prior to school.

Junior College Information Night / Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m.
PreACT will be offered at WKHS to sophomores and juniors
The PreACT will be offered at Worthington Kilbourne High School to sophomores and juniors, beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, November 8th, in the Main Gym. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Students can register for the PreACT by completing the PREACT REGISTRATION FORM from October 1st through October 22nd. Please click here to register. The cost for the test is $16. Payment will be submitted through MyPaymentsPlus. Testing will be limited to 200 students.
PreACT simulates the ACT testing experience by providing students early exposure to ACT test-quality questions and predictive score ranges on the familiar 1-36 scale. This helps students get comfortable with the testing experience and understand how they’re doing in core subjects.
PreACT helps identify:
- How a student is doing with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in college and beyond
- Areas where extra help or additional courses are needed
- Career possibilities that match the student’s interests

National supply chain issues affecting food service
Currently our Food Services Department is experiencing supply chain issues from its suppliers that do not appear to be ending anytime in the near future. These supply chain issues are making it difficult to count on the availability of standard lunchroom food and paper items from distributors. As a result, students may see different trays or utensils and food items from what they are used to seeing in the café. Some items will have to be temporarily removed from menus until they come back in stock.
The Food Service Department is currently working with additional food and paper suppliers in order to bulk purchase items when available as well as expand its purchasing options. These efforts are being made to minimize any changes to items your students are seeing in the lunchroom.
