Lead Mentor March Update
March 2019
It's Spring Time!
Last month we discussed fostering reflection, providing accountability and the toolkit of protocols and processes that our mentors have to use when they meet and work with their mentees. Fostering reflection using student data and/or mentor feedback will help teachers start to think about the instructional practices they are using and how to do so effectively to improve student achievement. The Teacher Progress Chart and Teacher Reflection Log were introduced as additional tools to use for fostering reflection. Within our discussion rooms we shared how to honor the mentor's knowledge and skills while still helping new teachers to reach their goals along with evidences you were seeing that indicated these relationships were having an impact on practice and learning.
This month we will be focused on creating a culture of continuous professional improvement, why it's important for your campus, and what your role as the Lead Mentor is in this. We will examine the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices for this as well as some additional resources. While some of these additional resources are not all based on the education field, they do parallel what we do in education and why continuous improvement benefits not only the professional, but the organization as a whole. Links to these resources can be found in the detailed agenda by clicking HERE or below in the Virtual Session Resources/Additional Readings section. Finally, we will have our last virtual break out session to discuss barriers you/your school are facing and how you are overcoming them. To get the most out of this discussion, it will be helpful for you to have access to a microphone and/or webcam in order to be seen/heard by your fellow Lead Mentors.
I encourage you to attend the live sessions as you will get the benefit of the chat box and break out room discussions which tie to the culture of continuous professional improvement through collaboration with your Lead Mentor PLC. As always though, resources will be available to you in this update as well as the Lead Mentor Course on Canvas.
Great News! Our last session together will be a face to face meeting! Information will be sent out shortly in regards to location, dates, and topics that will be covered. Please complete the self assessment mid point check by our March session if you have not already done it as this will be something we will dive into in the face to face session. This can be found below the Virtual Session Resources as well as in the Additional Resources link in the Lead Mentor course on Canvas.
I look forward to meeting with you all soon!
