ICCS Mission Statement:
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER by Christi Jarreau
This week the halls of the Cathedral School came alive with energized teachers and terrific kids - your kids! This first week is always very busy with everyone getting back into the routines and procedures of the school day. I pray all is going well re-entering the school year routine in your households.
Each year, our faculty and students focus on a scriptural theme for the school year. This year’s theme is Micah 6:8, “You have been told what is good and what the Lord requires of you, to do justice, to love goodness, and to walk humbly with God.” At Mass this morning, we were reminded of the importance of acting justly, loving goodness, and walking humbly with God just as Mary and others who came before us did.
“To Do Justice” challenges us to do what is right for everyone. The second requirement, “To Love Goodness,” calls us to align our life and our mindset to Christ’s and to devote ourselves to what is good in His eyes. “To Walk Humbly with God” does not refer to just downplaying one’s ability, rather it is the constant awareness of God’s sovereignty. Staying focused on how GREAT our God truly is will keep us humbled before Him and we will, in turn, naturally do justice and love goodness in all of His creation.
These “requirements” do not come naturally to young elementary and middle school students, especially in a world that often seems more self-centered than others-centered. Perhaps that is why it is so refreshing and inspiring when we see our terrific students live these requirements on the playground and in the classrooms. I am grateful for a faculty that models Micah 6:8 as an example for our students and look forward to a year of celebrating and being reminded of our call to do justice, to love goodness, and to walk humbly with God.
We are here as a school to assist and support you in the most important job you have - being a parent. Parenting - and teaching - can be very challenging. Supporting one another in our roles can make a better, more meaningful experience for our children. Thank you for partnering with us for your child’s education. Hand in hand, walking humbly with God and with one another, together we can give our kids the very best education possible ….. body, mind, and spirit!
CURRICULUM CORNER by Blair Tadlock
Welcome back to a new school year of strenghening spirits, minds, and bodies through the teachings of Jesus Christ! We are off to a wonderful start with our 2019-2020 theme from Micah 6:8 where we are called to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God. Our hallways, classrooms, and common learning spaces have been filled with the joy of our students and teachers in this first FULL week of school. What a blessing it is to have an opportunity to learn in such a joy filled place. As always, our teachers are growing, learning and collaborating to bring the best to their classrooms and our curriculum programs.
