A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hello Mustang Families,

It was another great week here at Madison. The students are really doing a good job of demonstrating The Mustang Way through our 3 R's: Respect, Responsibility, and Relationships, although we always have room to get better .

We are grateful for your help in reinforcing the importance of how we treat and take care of one another in our school community. We are also grateful for your involvement at Madison and would like to invite you to attend our first Parent Teacher Association meeting this upcoming week on Tuesday, 9/20/22, at 9:00am in the Madison staff lounge. Our PTA is an amazing organization that supports our students in so many important ways and they are always looking for additional members and help.

Have a great and restful weekend with family and friends and we can't wait to see you and your students next week.

Sincerely,

Mr. Walanski

ART WITH MS. MOFFETT

The students enjoyed tie-dyeing last Thursday during periods 3, 7, and 8. They will continue this project on Monday September 12th. Students can bring a shirt or some socks, we'd be happy to have more garments to experiment on and do it for you!

(this is definitely an experiment, so don't send your nice stuff )

THANK YOU PARENTS, TEACHERS, STAFF AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS FOR YOUR SCHOOL SUPPLIES DONATIONS!

Madison PTA was fortunate to be selected for Staples (Vista) Gives Back Program!

Each year, Staples customers have a chance to purchase a school supply donation kit and Staples matches each and every donation. Thus far, Vista Staples has donated 180 school supplies kits. Principal Walanski personally thanked the Staples representative for their support.

In addition, our PTA committee were thrilled with the tremendous support family showed at Back to School Night. Our school received a large amount of school supplies donations, thank you, Mustang families!

culture wall in our Seventh Grade Science Wall.

Mr. Pezzoli shared the projects his students worked on this week. Culture is an integral part of who we are and how we learn! Studies have demonstrated that students learn better when their culture and experience is acknowledged in their classroom. Acknowledging students' culture allows them to feel more valued and connected. In Science, and in most every content as well, students are encouraged to make sense of the subjects that they are learning through the filter of their own culture and experience so that they may learn more deeply.

THE IMPACT OF SLEEP

Here's a few highlights:

- Studies have found that children’s mental and physical health are directly affected by sleep. Healthy and consistent sleep habits are associated with better language development, academic achievement, and socio-emotional and behavioral functioning in young children.

- Recommended sleep - Children 6-12 years old: 9-12 hours, Teenagers 13-18 years old: 8-10 hours

- Parents of teens often drastically miscalculate the hours their child actually spends sleeping. They imagine them resting from the time they “clock out” for the day until the alarm goes off, but adolescents are frequently spending hours scrolling, reading, texting, or even just thinking while their caretakers assume they are asleep.

- Misdiagnosed ADHD, depression, and other issues can often actually be attributed to lack of sleep

- When a student starts to have trouble, sleep should be the very first thing that is questioned.

A word from our principal

Hello Madison Families,

I am honored and privileged to have the opportunity to serve as Madison's Principal. Although I've only been here a short time I've seen what an amazing place the Madison community is. We look forward to partnering with you this year to continue to help your child through these important years of their upbringing. Our number one priority is to continue to make Madison a place where all students feel safe, loved, and like they belong.

A little bit about me: I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois (Go Cubs! Da Bears!). I have been an educator for over 15 years as a high school teacher and administrator in Tucson, Arizona and Huntington Beach, California. My wife and our family live in Carlsbad, California with our two younger daughters who are 9 and 13, and our older daughter resides in Provo, Utah where she works and goes to school. I love the outdoors and going camping, and the favorite way to spend my time is out at my daughter's sporting events watching them be the fierce athletes that they are.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything at all and we are looking forward to a great year!
