Magellan was brave and had courage because he put himself into a place where no one had ever been! He didn't know where he was going or what he was going to see or get there.
Magellan had endurance because he didn't give up when he didn't find his destination for a LONG time, in fact, he never found it, he died in the process!
Magellan was Fearless because he set out to a new part of the world and knew he might never come home.
Magellan was self-sufficient because he had to go days with very little food and not very much fresh water.
Magellan was intelligent because he was able to find out the direction to go and where they were in a place no one had ever been, and there were no known land markers.

Ode to Ferdinand Magellan
Who had a love for the sea,
but did he have an academic degree?
Hey, don't ask me!
There's one thing I know
I will tell you this,
He sailed around the world
On some really nice ships.
He left in March, 1518
He didn't know his path
It was unforeseen
He sailed all day
He sailed all night
Then a storm came
it was such a fright
The Santiago didn't put up a fight
They lost one ship
now they're down to four
That's when they saw the first sight of shore
They fought with the Indians
but not for very long
soon after that they were moving right along
The fourth ship, San Antonio
decided that it was time to go home
Now the ship count was down to three
so they kept on sailin' the sea
They reached the grand island of Cebu
Shortly after that he met Lapu Lapu
Lapu Lapu challenged him to fight
with Ferdinand Magellan that was just not right
The next few days they went to war
and in that time, Magellan was no more
For during that skirmish
He died on the shore
With an arrow in his arm
and a javelin in his leg
they tried to save him
but he was already dead
The crew kept moving with only one ship
they reached the spice islands, it was such a long trip
They stocked up on cloves,
and made it back to Spain,
but don't think that the trip was made in vain
Even though some may have seen him as a felon
The crew kept sailing in honor of Ferdinand Magellan.
251 men left on the voyage, 18 returned!
