Prayer for Children
Dear God
Into my will, let there pour strength.
Into my feeling, let there flow warmth.
Into my thinking, let there shine light.
So that I may nurture this child with an enlightened purpose,
Caring with God's love and bringing wisdom to all things.
Amen
(Thank you Mrs Henderson for this beautiful prayer)
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Dear Parents and Carers
‘It’s ok to fall apart sometimes – tacos do, and we still love them’. For many of us, the continued strain of COVID-19 causes stress and anxiety, not only the physical impact of the sickness itself but also the emotional unrest from trying to juggle continuously changing expectations. As we find ourselves at different times feeling like we might 'fall apart', I hope the support of this community offers you, as it does me, comfort and strength.
Today sees a new record number of COVID-19 cases in Western Australia and this is reflected in kind at Mary's Mount Primary School. Please keep all those impacted, and especially the most vulnerable amongst us, in your thoughts and prayers. It is heartening to belong to a community that shows care and concern for one another, and we see that every day at our school.
SEEDS OF HOPE
Please click on the link below to view our seeds of hope story that was published in the CEWA news this week. In Week 9 of Term 1, the newsletter piece I wrote made reference to the importance of instilling hope in the lives of the children of Mary's Mount Primary School. Here is a delightful story of how we as a community are living 'hope in action'.

RATs
Our school will soon receive the WA Government supply of Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs). Once we have received the delivery, we will outline the procedures by which these RATs will be distributed to you for use by your child if they become symptomatic or if they are close household contacts.

MOTHER'S DAY PRAYER SERVICE
It was wonderful being able to have parents back onto school grounds and have a whole school celebration again, and it was even more special that we were able to do this for Mother's Day. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us.
NAPLAN
The Year 3 and Year 5 children have engaged in NAPLAN assessments over the past week. We congratulate them on their efforts and with some children in these classes being impacted by COVID, the assessments will continue into Week 4 for students in these year levels.
COMMUNITY MASS
As a Catholic school community, we are committed to building strong relationships with our parish, Holy Family Parish. This is an opportunity for children from our school to actively participate in a parish mass. This Saturday 14 May Kindy, Year 1, Year 3, and Year 5 students from Mary's Mount Primary School will be hosting mass. Our school choir will be singing and leading the musical aspect of the mass. Please come along and joyfully engage in this prayerful experience. We look forward to seeing you at Holy Family Parish on Saturday 14 May at 6 pm.
Our Sunflower Seeds of Hope will be on sale at mass.
FR SURESH ON LEAVE
Fr Suresh is heading off to India early next week for a holiday and to visit family. We wish him safe travels and an enjoyable trip, one I know he is looking forward to as it has been sometime since he has been able to see his family.
God bless

MMPS SCHOOL PHOTO DAY - TUES 31 MAY
Once again MSP Photography will be taking our annual school photos. This year, photos will be taken on Tuesday 31 May. Children will need to wear their correct full winter uniform, including shirt, pants, winter dress or culottes, school tie (see note below), jumper, school socks, school hair ties, polished shoes and be well groomed (no tights). Students will wear the school tie for photos, however if you don't have a tie, we will have spares available for students to borrow on photo day.
Orders for student photos need to be placed online.
Your personalised Online Order Information Slip was sent home with students yesterday. The slip provides you with detailed instructions on how to order and pay for your photos online. Please read the instructions on your child’s order form carefully to ensure that your order is correct. Order slips DO NOT need to be returned to the class teacher or school. Last day for online ordering is 7 June 2022. Orders placed after this date will incur a substantial late fee, so please note this date.
FAMILY PORTRAITS
If you have more than one child at MMPS and are interested in having a group portrait of your children, you will need to collect a “Family Photo Order Form” from the front office. The Family Photo Order Form needs to be returned in the drop off box to the front office by Friday 27 MAY including payment. Payment details for these photos are included on the family forms. Should you not collect and pay for a family portrait, the family photo will not be taken.
Family portraits will commence at 8.30am on school photo day and parents will be responsible for taking their children to St Joseph’s Hall for these photos. It is imperative that families who are having family portraits are on time and ready to commence at 8.30am.
If you have any questions about school photos or photo day, please contact the school office.

SOCIAL WORKER CORNER
Anxiety is an emotion that every person feels sometimes, but it can be challenging to support our children when they feel anxious. As parents we know that anxiety is a very real emotion, but we also know that many times our children’s anxiety can hold them back from doing things that are good for them, like trying or learning new things.
Psychologist, Karen Young, talks about helping children to find their ‘brave’ when they experience anxiety. This involves understanding what is happening in their brains and bodies when they feel anxious.
Karen explains that when we feel anxious, we can ask ourselves some important questions to help us work out what to do.
- Is this happening because it’s a real threat, or because I am about to do something meaningful or important?
- Is this a time for me to be safe, or is this a time for me to be brave?
If we decide that this is a time to be brave, we can remember that it is possible to ‘feel anxious’ but at the same time to choose to ‘do brave’.
The following things can help us to ‘do brave’;
- Take some strong, deep, steady breaths.
- Say our brave talk ‘We’ve got this’ ‘We’re safe’
- Do something that was braver than last time. Even if we can’t do all of the brave thing, we can ask ourselves ‘What can I do that was braver than last time?’
Below is a link to a video from Karen Young that explains how we can help our children to find their brave when they feel anxious. It may also be a great video to watch with your children to help them understand what they can do when they feel anxious.

Student Care is a world-wide policy that is purchased by educational institutes to cover all enrolled students.
All students enrolled at Mary’s Mount Primary School are covered 24/7 by the CCI Student Care Insurance Policy. Payments are not only made for out of pocket expenses, but lump sum benefits for accidents including fractures and damaged teeth.
