Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers. We hope everyone enjoys reading their new books!

All About Fall:
Pre Kindergarten
Fall Painting - Mrs. Pickerill
Last week in art we worked on our fine motor skills. We used droppers with different color liquid paint on coffee filter maple leaves. We also outlined our names with small cut out leaves and painted maple leaves with fall color paints. We also labeled the parts of a leaf.
Learning about apples - Mrs. Killian and Ms.TeVelde
During lunch many preschoolers are fascinated by the fact apples turn brown when they are cut. This week we explored why that is. We placed cut apples in vinegar, oil, water, and lemon juice. Throughout the week we compared these apples to the control apple, which was an apple out in the air. The preschoolers learned that apples turn brown as a defense against bugs that may eat them.
Early Kindergarten
LEAF LAB - MRS. OWEN
Prompt: Why do fall leaves change color?
Lyla "because it's fall"
Lukas "rain"
Lua "the water changes"
Levi "they have a lot of water"
Emmett"it's fall and it lets go"
Conor "they are getting ready to fall"
Clara "it's fall and there is oil from the rain, so they change colors"
Cameron "they just fall down"
Brooks "red water"
2nd Grade
Bellwood Acres
Second graders went to Bellwood Acres this week and learned all about apples, farming apples, making cider and more!
4th Grade
Team Building Activity - Mrs. Dudley
In 4th grade we had a team building activity. Groups of students had a piece of paper and tape only. They were instructed to build the longest paper chain they could while making sure it was stable (it needed to not fall apart).
Students talked and worked together to decide on how to cut and make their chain. A variety of results! Some groups really focused on length, while others really wanted to make sure they were creating a sturdy chain. All groups worked together well!

GET TO KNOW OUR STAFF:
Sophia Camaya - Preschool (3 Year Old Program, 3 Days a Week)
I was born in Saipan in the Mariana Islands out in the Pacific. From then on after my dad joined the US Navy, we moved up and down the East Coast and then in 2014, moved to Washington where I went to college.
I was very active in horseback riding going from 4-H to high school riding teams and then to the college level riding team. I attended Western Washington University majoring in Humanities with a minor in English. I then jumped into my Masters of Teaching English Education, Secondary Ed from Western Governors University, graduating right as COVID-19 shut down all in-person schooling.
After graduating from school, I dove into working and riding horses more, where in 2020 I bought my first horse and slowly began collecting.
In the past few years, I have grown with the Franklin Academy along with growing my other passion of teaching riding lessons through my small business, Meadowlarke Equestrian where I have had the pleasure and opportunity to teach some of the students from Franklin.
I started as a YMCA after school care counselor based out of what used to be St. Paul’s Academy, left and moved into working recess duty. From then on, I climbed the ladder going from lunch duty to substitute teacher; to then in 2020, a preschool teacher.
I am please to be a part of the Franklin Academy community.
