Legacy At-Home Learning Update
From Dr. Walder 4.6.2020
We are PROUD of you, Titan Families!
Question 1: How long should "At-Home Learning" last each day?
- Lessons in JK-2 are designed to take about 20 minutes per subject or about 1 1/2 to 2 hours per day.
- Lessons in 3-5 are designed to take between 20- 30 minutes per subject or about 2 to 2 1/2 hours per day.
- Specials and 5th Grade Band would be above and beyond this and are intended to enrich your child's week when there is time.
We do still encourage you to keep your daily reading habits of 20 minutes per day as we encouraged during the school year if you are able. If you need more reading content, please reach out to your child's teacher. They all have digital resources that are accessible via the devices students use for lessons.
Our lessons and opportunities for learning all are intended to provide your child as much normalcy for school time as we can. We know this will look different in every home for every family. Please continue to communicate with me (Samantha.Walder@k12.sd.us) or your child's teacher if you would like to visit about ideas. We are here for you and can help to make adjustments to lessons as well.
GOLD At-Home Learning Expectations
Question 2: How do I help encourage school-like learning for my Titan while working at home?
- Admittedly, this question is more difficult to answer as every family has a different schedule to work around and set up in their home. We are giving you these as a tool if you would like to use them.
- When we are in school, our Legacy Titans have GOLD Expectations to help us consistency in learning expectations throughout the school building. Each teacher implements their own classroom expectations as well. We review them each day in school and also review them on morning announcements.
- As our current At- Home Learning Plan is an extension of the school, we are giving you a copy of our At-Home Learning Expectations the GOLD Team developed. You may use them if you think it would be helpful. Teachers will also be giving them to students this week to help them when online working.
As part of the fun of the GOLD Expectations, teachers would play fun games with the students at our GOLD Assemblies once per month. No matter if you decide the GOLD Expectations will work for your Titan or not, don't forget to have FUN with your Titan, too!
The GOLD Team really makes our monthly assemblies BIG for the kids, because they are only once per month. Below are a few pictures from our November GOLD Assembly where students were able to make their own cream pies and teachers volunteered to be the targets!
Best wishes for a GREAT week of At-Home Learning!

Question 3: What if we get everything done?
In our feedback forms, families have asked for more ideas in supporting their child with additional, enrichment activities during this At-Home learning. There are many resources out there, but it can be overwhelming when trying to find something of quality.
Many of our teachers use Common Sense Media resources during the school year. They have been vetted and are of high quality. Please check out the link below to find some great At-Home Learning Resources if you would like more opportunities beyond what has been provided.
Are you having difficulty with your student’s District-Issued Chromebook or iPad?
Our TASD Tech Team created two pages of information for parents as you are using Chromebooks and iPads for At-Home.
If the Guides above do not answer your questions, please contact your child's teacher to see if he or she can assist you or fill out a form for the Technology Help Desk:
The Titan Parent/ Student Technology Help Desk is Open!
.
The help desk form may be completed at any time of the day or night, but our help desk hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday at 10 am - 6:30 pm.
