Wright-ings
Black History Month
February is Black History Month and students at Daniel Wright have been participating in many curriculum-aligned activities to learn about the history and accomplishments of black Americans.
Students are studying African American literature, music and art, in addition to well-known African Americans in science, medicine, law, and politics.
Parent Input Sought on Survey
Daniel Wright needs less than 100 parents to fill out the Illinois 5Essentials Survey so we have access to their feedback regarding school climate and learning conditions in District 103 through the state-administered, Illinois 5Essentials Survey. We need 20 percent of our parents to take the survey in order to see the results. The chart shows how many Daniel Wright parents have taken the survey to date.
The 5Essentials survey is a great way for D103 parents to provide input into the five indicators from the survey that affect and predict school success:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Cocoa For a Cause
Wright Way Club is encouraging students to bring a couple of dollars to school Monday, Feb. 14, or Tuesday, Feb. 15, and purchase a Hot Cocoa Bag of hot chocolate and candy. The Wright Way Club fundraiser benefits Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, which cares for orphaned, abandoned, abused or neglected dogs and cats.
Students Prepping for Regionals
The Daniel Wright Science Olympiad team placed fourth and sixth out of 104 teams in the recent Centerville, Ohio tournament! Individual medals won were three 5th place, one 4th place, two 3rd place, one 2nd place, and three 1st place.
The team is coached by Eric Rexer and Lisa Solesky with the assistance of parent volunteer event coaches. Coaches Rexer and Solesky would like to extend a hearty “Well done” to the students and coaches who worked so hard to support each other for this especially challenging tournament.
Charity Basketball Tournament
Congratulations and thank you to all the teams who participated in the Charity Basketball Tournament. Each of the following organizations will receive a check for $155: Polar Bears International, Feed My Starving Children and Baskets of Hope.
