Principal's Note
This is your week!
Rice's Teacher Spirit Week...I know kinda lame but due to our PTO doing so much of the Teacher Appreciation there isn't much left. However, I decided to put a spin on it just for fun.
Monday - Thanking you to the moon and back for all you do for our students. It's not often that you get to hear that you are special. Thank goodness someone thought to make an entire week to remind us simple folk to say how much you mean to us. Thank you -- Thank you ---Thank you to each of you on this Magnificent Monday
Tuesday - Teacher Tuesday...take time to reflect on a teacher in your life. Not only do kids love you, but you should reflect on those teachers that helped us get where we are. I've already begun to send out a couple of notes to some ladies that made Lucretia a better student. I've got a stamp for each of you that want to participate.
Wednesday - Welcome Wednesday - Welcome to wear the school appropriate the blue jeans of your choice. Enough said... Well, not really What the heck wear them Thursday and Friday too.
Thursday - Thankful Thursday - Thanking you for being so much to our children. Looking past the imperfections and acting as if everything in their lives is squeaky clean! And when you can't see the good at times you never give up on our kiddos...you wash them up and make it all better again for the next day. Thank you for cleaning and washing. So here's to your Thursday!
Friday - Fun Friday - Let's make the day fun for everyone.
Note of Thanks...
Thank you
It meant a lot to walk into the lounge to a total surprise. I had no idea that you had purchased a cake and cards. I begin every day with the thought of it can be better than the previous. You certainly helped me end my week on a better day. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness!
Much appreciated,
Lucretia Rice
Must Know Items For the week
Safety
Thanks and we will discuss more on next Monday.
Lawn Care Super Hero
The superhero strikes again.
This time I know his name. Special thanks to Superhero Tommy Crosby for taking our mower off and servicing it himself. It is now operational. We could not be as great as we are without the love and help of our community. Thanks, Mrs. Crosby for your support and making sure that he knew about our crisis.
We now have a mower and a mower user (lol)so things should be looking better around the school as it pertains to our grounds. Thanks to all that helped us when we were without.
Custodial Update
Please continue to keep Mr. Poole in your prayers. He is home resting and in GREAT spirits. He says he is thankful to have this procedure complete and behind him. Mr. Poole also sends his love and prayers for McAdenville.
Please continue to monitor the restrooms even closer as we do not have his kind soul waiting to get us out of a fix when some child decides to use to much paper or miss the stool or sink. Keep reminding your students to use self-care and treat our school with respect.
Building Updates! Repeat...
So I really forgot your Lotto Cards...
What a better week to have a do-over. . . putting a Lotto Card in everyone's box. Good Luck!
Most of all...
THANK YOU!
I certainly could not do it without YOU!

EOG Review Questions
Math
Students will be given 1-5 questions 2-3 times weekly through a google form. These are Released EOG questions that have been formatted so that students can quickly read and answer just like taking our EOG. Please provide scratch paper and 2-3 minutes per problem. The Google forms are NC standards aligned so that you will quickly see if your students have an understanding of the standard as prescribed by the EOG.
Reading
NC suggested QUESTION STEMS for NC standards. Please Notice that on April 1 you will begin your district review packet. The document shared by Mrs. Griffith will be aligned with the standards covered in the packet.
I ask that you place the question stems in at least one of three places.
- Read Aloud
- Shared Reading
- Independent Reading (with accountability)
Please place the questions that you choose to use in your weekly lesson plans. This way we have full access to your teaching and expected student learning. I look forward to reviewing this in your rooms and in your plans next week.

Engagement and Worksheets
How often are you using worksheets for instruction and homework each day? How can we reduce the number of worksheets used during the school day?
Teacher - Student relationships
How can we change the tone of how we address students? It’s not what you say sometimes it’s how you say it. Model what they expect. The modeling sessions may have to be repeated a number of times, but model the expectations (Behavior and Instruction) with grace and respect for the student.
Agenda and I Can Statements - Daily Expectations
Each classroom should have an agenda listing what will be taught each day.
Each classroom should have I Can statements posted each day and tied to a standard.
