Welcome Back Jean's Day!
NEWS & NOTES
Our vision should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through posted I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Please welcome Laura Vogelsang to the Wendell Phillips 63 family!!! She will be working with our ESL Department along with Ms. Delbridge and Ms. Gutierrez. She will be with us when we return after break.
Please wish Ashley Emery, our 3/4 Aspiring Teacher, well! As you may be aware, she is having her third child and will be leaving to spend more time with her family and prepare to welcome child #3! Thank you Ms. Emery!
Take TIME for yourself over Winter Break!!!! Enjoy whatever makes you happy and forget about school for a little bit! This is a great time to recharge the batteries, re-center the soul, and get prepared for the push when we return. I am PROUD of the hard work you have put into your students and your positive mindset you bring each day. This mission is not easy....but THANK YOU for everything!
As outlined by the schedule above, we are going to host principal's from other buildings for instructional rounds on Thursday, January 5th. I will receive the schedule and expectations over Winter Break, and will share these with you as soon as I receive them. I know we will provide them an AWESOME experience!
When we return from break, we are going to have to RETEACH, RETEACH, RETEACH behavioral expectations. This includes our PBIS procedures and classroom procedures. Reflect on the first semester.....what worked, what didn't. How are you going to make your classroom a positive learning environment for all your students? New Cardinal Cash will also be ready for distribution...make sure you positively reinforce the heck out of your students for making positive choices!!!
Engaging and rigorous instruction....let's continue to push this after break!! When we get back...it is GO TIME for our instruction, as we are preparing our students for mid-year assessments and ISTEP in grades 3-6. Reflect hard on your lesson plans....how are you meeting your students needs.....INTENTIONALLY? How does your lesson align so the assessment tool you use to determine mastery aligns directly with the lesson objective? This will be looked for during walkthroughs when we return from break. Be prepared!!
Check out the DIY section below for some thoughts and resources related to our vision of engaging and rigorous instruction.
