Campus Connections
August 6, 2017
Message from Jeff and Yolanda
Welcome back! We hope you had a relaxing summer and enjoyed your time with family and friends. Jeff and I live vicariously through the stories of many of you who took time this summer to go on adventures around the world. Several students and teachers have stopped by to visit and share how excited they are to begin a new school year. Preparing for the new year gives us an opportunity to reflect on the past and to plan for continued improvement. Building on last year's theme of "We are Family", the focus this year will be on working together in order to enrich the experiences of our students on campus. This leads us to the theme for the 2017-2018 school year which is to be "student centric." In everything we do in the classroom, lab, clinic, shop and job-site, we want our work to be centered on our students.
What do we mean by “Student Centric"?. Each decision made as educators should revolve around how we positively impact the lives of students. A student centered school provides optimal learning experiences and services that lead to student success.
Students deserve the greatest educational opportunities and highest quality of service. As a student-centered campus, LWTC, LWTHS and Adult Education strives to provide optimal learning experiences and services that lead to student success. As a campus, during the 2017-2018 school year, we will focus on two primary factors that influence student success:
- Enhancing our school culture to engender a caring and supportive environment.
- Providing educational experiences and support services that meet the academic, social and career development needs of students.
In doing so, we will:
- Commit to all students being successful;
- Continually develop and deliver programs and services that better serve students;
- Promote rigorous and meaningful learning;
- Recognize that each student comes to us with unique experiences, skills and potential barriers;
- Challenge students to aspire to the highest academic, social and career goals;
- Recognize student success is influenced by peers, faculty, staff, administrators and school’s practices, policies, environment and the individual needs of students.
While you were away. . .
- School Grades were released and LWTHS remains an "A" school for the sixth consecutive year! An increase of 61 points from last year was the biggest point gain of any high school in Collier County.
- With 722 total points, LWTHS propelled its way to becoming the #1 Title I school in the state of Florida!
- In addition to the Adult Education and Family Literacy grants, Adult Education received a $100,000 Corrections grant to expand program in the jail.
