December News
What's Happening at STE?
From the Principal's Desk
As cases of COVID-19 increase in our community, contact tracing is taking a long time. If someone in your household tests positive, please keep your student home and contact Mrs. Myers or myself as soon as possible. This will allow us to take fast action in assuring safety for our school community and also allow us to share a remote learning plan for your child.
Looking ahead at December, we know things will be different this year than usual. But we are hopeful to make the most of these last three weeks of the semester. Our teachers have fun classroom activities planned and we look forward to celebrating this winter season together. Each week we have a word of the week, where we focus on different character traits. This month our words are advocate, reliability and cooperation. Each week these words come with a reflection question. Ask your child about the word of the week!
On behalf of the entire Sutton Elementary staff, we thank you for sharing your students with us each day and we hope you have a healthy and happy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Emily Austin Jordan, Principal

In P.E. we finished the Basketball Unit and have spent some time in station rotations. This has given us an opportunity to continue to work on proper form as we exercise so we don't hurt ourselves. The children enjoyed playing some fun seasonal games and more of those will follow this month. As the colder weather has arrived and the holidays have approached, we will continue to talk about making healthy food choices, exercising every day and getting enough rest every night.
We just completed month three of the HEALTHY FUTURES CHALLENGE. I’m looking forward to submitting the students November logs and awarding prizes to those students. STUDENTS HAVE BEEN REMINDED THAT THESE LOGS ARE DUE NO LATER THEN FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4th IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A PRIZE.
Please continue to remind your children that they need to wear their P.E. shoes in the gym.
In music, we learned about the Composer, Gustav Holst. The students have had the opportunity to listen to, critique and analyze several of Gustav Holst’s pieces, such as The Planets, In The Bleak Midwinter and the Cotswolds Symphony. By listening and moving to these pieces of music, they have learned how musical elements communicate meaning and emotion. Additionally, they have learned the use of music for various purposes by performers and listeners in a variety of different cultures. The students were also introduced to the expressive elements of dynamic and articulation.
We will continue our study of composers and musical concepts over the next several months. Thank you for always encouraging your children to try their best in music and P.E.!
I’m sure many of you have seen Library books coming home each week, I do hope your children are still sharing these with you. PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILDREN REMEMBER TO BRING THEIR BOOKS BACK EACH WEEK. 😊 As I mentioned before we will continue to use some of our library time each week to learn about digital citizenship and the important skills that help keep us safe on-line.
As always, it is such a pleasure and a privilege to teach your children each day! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions.
Enjoy your holidays,
Ms. Fisher :)
