Staff Recognition and Student Achievement
The Board of Education recognized District 103 retirees and staff’s years of service to the district. Retiring this year are long-time employees, Joanne Widmark and Scott Gaunky. The Board of Education recognized students and teams for achieving their highest level of competition available to earn.
Generators for Half Day and Sprague
The Board authorized the administration to move forward with the purchase of backup generators for Half Day and Sprague schools. These items will go out to bid after all specifications have been prepared and the Board will have final approval of cost.
Van Purchase
The Board approved the purchase of a passenger van to transport students to school sites outside of District 103. The van will help alleviate expenses for transportation.
Internship Program
The Board approved the internship program in which the district will host a teacher intern for a year where they would be mentored in curriculum design, planning, assessment, building professional relationships, and teaching and learning. The District will pilot the program with one intern position for the 2022-2023 school year.
D103 Learning Update
Bears Legends Award: Sprague First-Grade Teacher Lisa Lindell was honored this week with the Chicago Bears Classroom Legends award.
COVID Update: There has been a recent rise in statewide COVID cases as well as Lake County Cases. D103 schools have mirrored the increase in rates across Lake County and Lincolnshire.
Facilities Master Plan
The administration will meet with Wold Architects to review the Facilities Master Plan and possible needs to be addressed in the next five years. After a cost analysis of the items, the plan is used to determine which projects to proceed with over the summer and which projects are to be completed in future years.
Working Cash Transfer
Patrick Palbicke, Assistant Superintendent for Business, recommended transferring a portion of the working cash fund to the capital projects fund for certain construction items. Transfers happen annually among the operating funds for those projects most in need. The Board will act on the transfer at a June meeting.
Tentative Budget
The Board discussed the proposed 2022-2023 budget document. Expenses are budgeted at $38.07 million. Revenue is budgeted to be $38.3 million. Expenses include salary increases averaging 3.5 percent, medical insurance increasing 6.2 percent, and increased capital outlay expenses. The district is still finalizing its budget numbers. The Board will approve the final budget at a future board meeting.
Late Arrival Days
The district has provided for two late arrival days. The administration would like to provide staff with four late arrival days for the 2022-2023 school year. Staff finds late arrival days valuable because they are a time for teachers to meet with their grade level or job-like teammates for the purpose of collaborating and discussing instructional strategies, curriculum pacing, and student data, said Katie Reynolds, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Late arrival days would mostly align with Stevenson late arrival days, Mrs. Reynolds said. The Board will support the four late arrival days for the 2022-2023 school year.
Superintendent Report
PCR Testing: This is the last week the take-home PCR test is being offered to staff and students. The District will consider the need for the test again in August depending on federal funding and the state of COVID at the time.
Kindergarten Enrollment: Kindergarten enrollment numbers are larger than at this time in years past. There are only a few parents requesting half-day kindergarten for their children.
