MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Mental health has been a priority throughout the school year, and the yoga sessions across the Mount Vernon City School District have been a great way for staff and scholars to unwind and relax during Mental Health Awareness Month. Fernanda Carvalho, District Psychologist, has brought yoga to several schools already, and she constantly works hard to support mental health with Mount Vernon scholars.
The actors at Denzel Washington School of the Arts put on a marvelous performance of “A Night with Cinderella.” The acting and singing were top tier, and it is clear how hard they worked to prepare for their roles.
Each of the 16 schools in the Mount Vernon City School District have been designated as “No Place for Hate.” Josephine Kirkland-Hudson, School Social Worker, deserves credit for what she has accomplished as a leader on our No Place for Hate initiative. She has done a remarkable job and received the Gold Star Educator Award from the ADL at the ceremony on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
Have a safe Memorial Holiday weekend, and we will see you back on Tuesday.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
