Ms. Fox and Ms. Chunna Skeen
We are privileged to get to work with your children this year. We want them to be successful in all ways, so please call or email me anytime to discuss any issues or ask questions. It takes a village to raise a child, please let us be a trusted part of your village!

A Look At Our Week....
We had such a "Fun Friday" this week! Our movie field trip was amazing. Asheville Pizza's movie house is awesome, and because we were the only people in the theater we had a big dance party at the end of "Trolls". It was such a feel-good moment for us all, the children were really polite - saying "thank you" for the pizza, and it was great singing and dancing with 80 people! I will be sending out permission forms on Monday for our next field trip to the Fish Hatchery. Please sign and return promptly.
Then, our Pete the Cat movie premiere and Parent Appreciation event was hilarious! The kids were natural movie stars, thanks to Ms. Brown (the librarian) for giving the children a chance to shine. The movie is on the Claxton website, on the Media Center page. This is the link....https://youtu.be/VIDtGvjGvt4?list=PLohSOH8_dLBmODvm1nFG5dFvn-H1dywb7. As for the Mexican Folk dance in our room - wowee!! We definitely celebrated Cinco de Mayo in our own special way!
Thank you SO much to everybody for making us feel so spoiled during Teacher Appreciation week. I'm using all the gift cards to add to your child's experience in the classroom, for these last few weeks. For instance, we are working towards earning a planting and popsicle party with a class of second graders this week. Each child will be planting something in the garden beds in the big playground. Then children can choose to water and weed during recess sometimes. We will be reading big books about planting all week during Storytime.
In terms of academics, we will be assessing each child's reading skills over the next two weeks to determine their end of year level. Please make sure that your child is present, on time, and well-rested each day. You want to be aiming for about 10-11 hours sleep for a child of this age. Hopefully you will have seen your child's interest and ability in reading increase substantially this year. They are certainly busy readers and writers in the classroom. Each day your children line up to share their writing with each other at the end of Daily 5!
In terms of social skills, we will be working on using kind words for the remainder of the year. Having met our goal of using gentle hands with each other most of the time, this is the next skill we will be developing. I will be teaching them to "stop and think" before they say or do something that is mean, or hurtful.
Ms. Skeen has been a wonderful addition to our classroom! I am so thankful that she has joined our class family.
