Panther Post
April 11 - 16, 2016 - Serve, Lead & Inspire
Hello Lopez Families,
Last Thursday I was in a principal's meeting when the Eisenhower principal got the call about his student who was hit by a car. It was a terrible feeling for everyone. My heart goes out to the family. This, coupled with our own news story early in the week, has made for a tough week and has renewed our focus on safety. It is important for us all to work together at school and at home. We are reviewing our procedures here and I am sure you are having those conversations at home as well. I know I did at home with my own son. I spoke to the students Friday about paying attention, using crosswalks, and following signals when crossing streets.
With such a tough week, we also cannot forget about the good things happening here at Lopez and how wonderful these students are. After last week's track meet, we are in first place in the Middle School Cup standings. If you don't know, the Middle School Cup is a yearly competition between schools, getting points in everything from fine arts and academic performances to athletic events. There are not a lot of events left and we usually shine in them so my confidence is high. Go Panthers!
On a side note, I had a student give me a drawing she had been working on for some time. I used to see her in the cafeteria during lunch working on it. I was amazed at how talented she was. The way she captured the face in the drawing was remarkable. Then one day I came into my office and there it was. She had dropped it off for me as a gift. I framed it and put it up in my office. I love these kids! Give your kids a hug and have a good week!
