What a great week to be a STALLION!
It was nice to see everyone from our break. Everyone seemed excited to be back at school, adults included. I think humans strive off of routine. Please help us re-establish routines this second semester. This semester is even more important than the last. Help us establish home work routines and reading routines at home. It is apparent that a lot of our parents enforce this, but the more the merrier!
See you around the campus...
Remember, we are the Best school with the Best students and the Best faculty and staff. Good, Better, Best!!! Never let it rest, until your good gets better and your better gets best!
Sincerely,
Leroy Bradley II

One School, One Book
Dear Parent/Guardian: This month our school will be embarking on a special project, an all-school book club called One School, One Book™. Every student will have access to the same book titled Fish in Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. I am personally asking you to make the time so that your family can participate in this special activity. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. Our 6th grade students will read the book with their ELA teachers and our 7th and 8th grade students will read it with their electives teachers. However, all students will have access to additional copies in the library, which they may check out. With the One School, One Book™ program, we aim to build a Community of Readers at our school. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, and even administrative staff will all be following along together. Along with the book, you will receive a reading schedule so that you can keep up at home.

Let your teen know that generosity can mean giving time instead of money. If he wants to give gifts but is short on cash, suggest he make coupons for his time. He might give a sibling a coupon for a free study date, or give Grandma one for a night playing cards.

What is your teen’s favorite book, movie, or game? Ask her to consider sharing her recommendation in a review on Amazon or Goodreads. She’ll practice putting her ideas in writing, while providing information to help others decide whether to read, watch, or play.

The school year may be almost half over, but there’s still time to catch up if your child has fallen behind. Suggest that your youngster talk to teachers about how to get extra help, improve his grades, and turn things around.

Studying for math tests requires a hands-on strategy. Your child should prepare by doing extra problems from her textbook. She can check the back of the book for answers. She might also find and work problems online or rework missed problems from homework.

Happy first day of winter! It’s a good season for taking up a new hobby. Encourage your tween or teen to keep his hands and mind busy by exploring a new hobby. He might take up painting, learn magic tricks, or start a band with friends.

Homework for the holidays? Be sure your teen has a plan for projects that need to be completed over winter break. Suggest that she divide her work into smaller pieces and make a schedule for getting each part done so there’s no last-minute rush.

Spend some family time making a “pitch-in dinner” tonight. You make the entree, and everyone else can choose a salad, side dish, or dessert to prepare. It will give your family an opportunity to reconnect, and your child will pick up cooking skills to boot!

The Houston Rockets and AntPool are partnering with Space Center Houston to offer the Rockets Science Program to Null Middle School. Rockets Science is an introduction to Rocketry that brings the wonder of science directly to students, while also exploring how rockets are governed by Newton’s Laws of Motion. This is an invitation only program, that’s open to 35 students.
Rockets Science teaches students the step by step process of building and launching their very own rocket. This exciting initiative includes four (4) weekly on-line instructional videos—each with a student activity that helps to illustrate the highlighted lesson, which correlates with one of Newton’s Laws of Motion. By the end of the 4th session, students will have constructed their own rocket.
