Congratulations to Ms. Veronica Jimenez, and Ms. Roberto for being nominated as Decembers' Teacher and Staff Member of the Month! Thank you for your passionate service! Don't forget you get 5 jean coupons, 30 min coverage and a lunch giftcard! Enjoy!
100th Day of School
This Wednesday is our 100th day of school! Please make sure to celebrate it with our students and include some fun activities for our students! They are 100 days smarter! If you have any pics send them to Mima so we can post them on facebook!
Employee Service Awards 2/13
If you completed 10, 15, 20, 25 or more years of service at Pfisd, please send me your name this week so I can double-check that you are recognized! The banquet to celebrate you will take place on Feb. 13th at 6:00. Invitations should have been delivered. Please let me know if you will be attending and if you will have a plus 1, so I know how many seats to save. :)
Oratorical Event
Our annual Oratorical Event is around the corner and it's time to see our kids shine! Throughout the month of February, we will be celebrating Black History Month and recognizing African American figures who have made an impact in our lives. Our students will explore various poems, excerpts, and/or speeches by these figures and choose a selection that "speaks" to them which they will then memorize and recite in early March.
*Please note that this is mandatory for 3rd-5th graders at HP. Participating in the Oratorical Competition, on the other hand, is highly encouraged, but not a requirement.
You should have already/will soon receive "Oratorical Dates to Remember" along with an Oratorical rubric that you will use for each student.
Big thing to know now is... PLEASE talk to your kids about the event and have them select their Oratorical piece by Thursday, Feb. 6th . We will have a flyer going home that day providing parents with info about Oratorical (flyer attached in case you want to view).
Side note and reminder: All students in DL classes are eligible to compete in BOTH languages. They do not have to choose one or the other. If you have a student who is a TOP English and TOP Spanish performer, they can perform both poems for the competition.
Please contact Ms. Duong at any time if you need clarification or any further information. S Also, your grade level S.S. representative(s) are great resources as well!

Teaching Tip:
Deliver your instruction with energy and enthusiasm. Your passion is contagious and it motivates your students.
Behavior Tip
Your students will behave as you expect them to. If you begin with the assumption that there will be misbehavior, chances are they will fulfill that expectation. However, if you expect the best from them and clearly communicate these expectations, they will do everything they can to meet your assumptions about their character and abilities. It’s just human nature and it’s at work in everyone from children to adults.
Purposeful Literacy and Math Stations
As we have to visit classrooms we have noticed a trend of "read to self" not only during Language Arts but during Math as well. Please remember that it is a campus expectation to meet with students in small groups for guided reading and math. Along with that comes purposeful and meaningful stations that students need to be engaged in. While it is ok to have one read to self station during ELA/SLA it is not best practice to have the entire class reading to self, and especially not appropriate during math time. In addition, it is always a good idea to add an accountability piece to read to self, ex a reader's response. Please take some time this week to review your resources and engage your students in purposeful and intentional learning.
SWAT
This week we will meet with K-2 and review literacy and math stations. 3-5 will not meet this week do to MOCK STAAR. Next week we will meet with 3-5, and K-2 will have an off week.
