Message from Dr. Ephlin, Principal
There is no school next week March 16-20. I hope everyone has an opportunity to rest and recharge. Many of you have been asking about the coronavirus and the school district's plan. The district has created a web page for your information. You can access the web page here. or by logging onto the district web page.
Please make sure you check out our Upcoming Events at the bottom of this Newsletter as well as our webpage where you will find our campus calendar with a list of all of our events for the entire year.

Attention 6th Grade Parents!
Your student will need to have proof of the following vaccinations PRIOR to starting 7th grade:
Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis)
MCV4 (meningitis)
I advise you to make an appointment to get your student vaccinated as soon as possible (if you haven't already). There is usually a rush to get this done in the summer and local clinics may run out, impacting your student being able to start school on time. If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Stella at (512)424-8817. Your doctor may fax updated records to (512)424-8940.
Local vaccination resources:
Family Physician; Local Pharmacies; Williamson County & Cities Health District 512-248-3257; Travis County Health Department 512-972-5520

CELEBRATE MARCH BY “GOING GREEN” AND “EATING A RAINBOW”!
Green veggies are rich in vitamins/nutrients, promote bone/eye/dental health and when eaten regularly can help prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes, as well as inflammation. This month, add some more green to your plate such as asparagus, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, collards, cucumbers, grapes, green beans, green peppers, honeydew, kale, peas, and spinach.
"Eating a rainbow" helps your body get a complete range of nutrients. Not only does eating a rainbow of colors of fruits and vegetables help lower your risk of chronic disease and prevent poor eyesight, the different colors of fruits and vegetables provide you with powerful antioxidants that can boost your immune system and provide protection against illness.
What does it mean to eat a rainbow?
• Choosing a variety of different-colored whole foods throughout the day and week.
• The more naturally occurring colors on your plate at each meal or snack, the better.
• It does not mean making a rainbow with artificially colored foods (gummy snacks, soda, popsicles, etc.)
Here are some tips to add in fruits and vegetables into your daily routine:
· Try topping macaroni and cheese or baked potatoes with broccoli
· Check the freezer aisle—frozen fruits and veggies are healthy alternatives to fresh
· When eating out, try swapping your usual fried side with a salad or veggie/fruit option
· Have your kids choose the veggie or fruit of the week for everyone to try!
There IS something worth so much more than a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…
your HEALTH!!
¡tu SALUD!
IB CORNER
8th Grade IB Community Projects
Attention ALL 8th graders! You have approximately one month remaining until your IB Community Project will be due. You should be finishing the ACTION portion of the project and should begin to reflect on the experience as a whole. Check the timeline (pg 15) in your handbook for more information. All students have been given a hard copy of the handbook - access the digital version HERE for more information.
Is the 8th grade IB Community Project required - the answer is YES.
In addition, you will need a tri-board for the presentation and exhibition of your project (the type you usually see at science fairs). You may purchase from various locations (Amazon, Office Depot, Hobby Lobby, etc).
SAVE the date! The IB Community Project presentations and exhibition will take place at the end of April. Presentations are scheduled for Monday 4/20 and Tuesday 4/21, with the exhibition will be the morning of Tuesday, 4/28 (9-10 am).
This is one example from a previous year.
