Report Card Grades Posted in Skyward
- The first Grading Period ended last Friday, September 18.
- Report Card Grades for the 1st grading period will be posted to Skyward on Thursday, September 24.
- We will not print Report Cards for each grading period. Grades are always current and live in Skyward.
- At any time, you can always contact your child's teacher(s) if you have questions or concerns about your child's grades.
Grades and Expectations!
It is IMPERATIVE that your child keep up with his/her assignments and participate in ALL classes every day (this includes Electives and PE)!
We encourage you to communicate with your child's teachers if your child will be absent, is having technology issues, and/or needs assistance in the class. The teachers are here to help and are available for tutoring for your child.
Virtual School Norms Revisited!
We continue having concerns about classroom expectations, etiquette, and norms that should be followed by our students while they are a Virtual Academy Learner. These are no different than if the student is sitting in the teachers' classrooms.
Please read the following expectations for ALL classes and discuss with your child:
- Students' Learning Environments should be in a quiet place with a desk or a table for their device and other supplies. They should be sitting upright in a chair so they can actively listen and participate.
- Students should NOT be in their bed, lying on the couch or recliner, playing ball in their room, etc. while they are in class.
- Attendance is taken every period with the exception of lunch and WIN time. Texas laws regarding attendance are being followed. As always, please communicate with us if there is an illness or extenuating circumstance that prevents attendance for any class(es).
- All students are expected to be dressed in school-appropriate attire and ready for the day to begin at 8:30. Please make sure your child is not in pajamas for the school day.
- Students are expected to be actively engaged and to follow the classroom social contracts, expectations and procedures at all times.
- Microphones should be muted unless called on by the teacher or by another student. The "Chat" is the best tool for communication if not called on directly and/or for a student to get the teacher's attention.
- Students are not to leave their computer to go to the restroom, take a shower, get a snack, etc. without permission from the teacher.
- Parents, please remember that this is the teacher's classroom. We appreciate your involvement in your child's learning, but the teacher is in charge of that classroom and should be the only adult interacting with the students and the students should only be interacting with the teacher.
Please be cognizant of the learning environment that can be seen by the entire class.
Be mindful of the clothing that other family members are wearing and conversations that can be heard in the background by the entire class.
Masks are Required
Masks are non-negotiable and MUST be worn by all students!
Our students have done an AMAZING job complying with the mask requirements. Please make sure your child has his/her mask BEFORE leaving for to come to school each day.
It is also a good idea for your child to have a 2nd mask in his/her backpack just in case.
Thank you for your continued support!
Bandanas and masks with valves are NOT allowed!
Our First Mental Monday Activity - Affirmations
Our first Mental Monday Activity will be Monday, September 21, during Husky Time (or Tuesday for those who have Monday Recess) for both In-Person and Virtual Learners. Activities will be altered for our Virtual Learners.
A part of our Capturing Kids' Hearts culture is knowing how to give both verbal and written affirmations. This first Mental Monday Activity will be to explain the power of written affirmations to the students, and to let them practice affirming themselves and others.
Students will do the following:
- Watch and discuss the video on the power of giving a compliment
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OBgdoAmuwI
6th Grade Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjjqedhWIN8
- Do affirmation starters activity and be given a “My Positive Thoughts and Affirmations” sheet
- Brainstorm some positive thoughts and affirmations to say to themselves using this sheet.
- Write an affirmation to themselves to keep in their binder along with their positive thoughts sheet.
- Get an “Example Affirmations” sheet for them to keep in their binder
- Partner up with 1 or 2 other students and discuss 3-4 of these conversation starters:
What is something you struggled with last year and how did you overcome it?
What is one thing you would like to change about yourself?
What adjectives, words or phrases would people use to describe you and why?
- Write an affirmation to their partner(s) from the above activity
- Write an affirmation to one of their teachers (either present or past)

Still Needing a District Device for Learning?
If you have already submitted a form and are waiting for your device, please do NOT fill out this form again.
Click on this link remaining device requests to submit a request.
Fall 2020 Student Device Distribution will be delivered directly to the school for parent pickup. Parents will be notified when the device is ready.
There Should be NO Arrivals before 8:00 AM!
This year all car riders are to remain in their cars until we open our doors at 8:00 am. We are also asking all walkers or bike riders to not arrive on campus until 8:00 am.
There will be no supervision outside prior to 8:00 am, which means there will not be active monitoring for social distancing.
We have paw prints painted on the front walkway for students to stand on as a reminder while the doors are opening for entering the building. Should a parent need to drop off prior to 8:00 am, we have a before and after school program available. Click here for MISD Quest Information
As students enter the building, they go to the gyms or the cafeteria if they eat breakfast. The first bell rings at 8:20, for students to go to class The tarty bell rings at 8:30, and the expectation is that all students are in their seat/assigned spot and ready to learn promptly at 8:30. Students who are not in their seat/assigned spot and/or who enter the building after the tardy bell rings will be marked tardy. Students considered tardy are to check-in at the office.
No Visitors Allowed in the Building
If your child forgets his/her lunch and/or any materials needed for their learning, please follow the following procedures:
- Ring the Bell to speak to someone in the front office
- Let them know you are there to drop off your child's lunch and/or materials needed for learning
- Leave your item(s) on a table in the foyer with your child's name on it. It MUST have your child's name on it. Someone will get it off the table and deliver it to your child.
- Exit the building after that. You will not be allowed to come into the front office and/or give your child their item(s).
*This is different than having an appointment and/or being called to come pick up your child due to illness or other circumstances.
We appreciate your cooperation!
