Frequently Asked Attendance Questions
What time does my child need to be in class to avoid being tardy?
Students are expected to be in their seats by 7:45. Any student arriving after 7:45 is considered tardy and will be issued a tardy slip from the office.
What happens if I need to pick up my child early?
Our school day ends at 3:00. Every effort should be made to schedule medical appointments outside of the school day. If it is necessary to pick your child up early for a medical appointment, a written excuse from the doctor will be required to excuse the missed part of the day.
What do I need to do when my child is too sick to come to school?
When you know your child will not be attending school, please call or email to report the absence. When your child returns, please send a note detailing the date of the absence, your child’s full name, the teacher's name, the reason for the absence, and your signature.
What if my child is absent for several days in a row?
In compliance with Lewisville ISD attendance guidelines for excused absences, the school will accept a total of 3 parent notes for excused absences in a four-week period. Any additional absences, beyond the initial 3 absences, require a doctor's note or the student must be evaluated by the school nurse. If neither of these requirements re met, the absence is unexcused.
What is truancy and how does it affect me and my child?
Truancy is the unexcused absences from school that exceed the limits outlined by the state and federal law. Schools are required to report violations of this law. Violations of this law could result in a referral for truant conduct with the Denton County District Attorney.
How many times can my student be absent and/or tardy before I am in violation of truancy laws?
When a student incurs unexcused absences for three or more days or parts of days (tardies and/or early pick-ups included) within a four-week period, a warning notice will be sent to parents. This notice will inform parents that the district is initiating truancy prevention measures including, but not limited to, a mandatory conference between the parent and the attendance committee.
When a student incurs unexcused absences for 10 or more days or parts of days (tardies and/or early pick-ups included) within a 6-month period, a referral may be made with the Denton County District Attorney for truant conduct.
