Tardy Policy
Parents & Guardians:
Starting Monday, January 28th, we will start strictly enforcing the below tardy policy at Santo Nino. Students arriving to school on time is very important for the classroom environment.
At the 8:00am bell, any student arriving after the bell, will be counted tardy. Homeroom teachers will have a grade of 100 entered into their grade book as "punctuality". After the 3rd tardy, the students participation grade will be reduced by 5 points per tardy. Students may earn the points back by doing courteous and kind deeds at the school (at the discretion of the teacher) and can earn points back 1 at a time. For each good deed, the student can earn 1 point back. At the end of the year, each student that has a 100 punctuality grade will receive a special Principals award.
If the student is tardy, parents/guardians must sign the students in.
As always, bad weather and significant traffic conditions will be taken into account solely by the principal.
Catholic Schools Week!
It is going to be a fun week next week as Catholic Schools Week. As part of Fiesta, Carlos Gallegos III was allowed to choose the menu for the whole week.
So, he chose:
Monday- Baked Chicken
Tuesday- Frito Pie
Wednesday- Chicken Nuggets
Thursday- Beef Tacos
Friday- Chicken Stir FryCarlos also won the chance to be principal for the day on February 1st.
Students can also wear spirit dress all week! There are themes for each day:
Monday: Celebrating Vocations
By focusing on Faith, Knowledge and Service, Catholic schools prepare children to use their God-given talents to the fullest later in life. National Catholic Schools Week offers an opportunity for students to explore the many life paths that enable them to use their talents well in the service of God and others.
Dress code: Spirit Dress/ School colors-Students and staff can come dressed in their spirit dress and show off their school colors.
Inspiration and ideas: We will open up Catholic Schools Week with a Prayer Service in the gym at 8:30a.m. All Priests, Deacons, and Sisters will be invited to celebrate with our students.
Students will write letters of thanks to the Priests, Deacons, and Sisters involved in our parishes and present them following the Prayer Service.
Tuesday: Celebrating Our Students
Schools celebrate students during National Catholic Schools Week by planning enjoyable and meaningful activities for them and recognizing their accomplishments. They encourage students to reflect on the benefits of Catholic education and how the grounding in Faith, knowledge and service it provides will help them throughout their lives.
Dress code: Crazy hat/crazy sock day-students and staff can wear their crazy hat and socks to school.
Inspiration and ideas: Plan a fun activity for your students to do in your classroom.
Wednesday: Celebrating Our Community
A central aspect of Catholic education is learning the importance of service to others. When students take part in service activities-both local and beyond-they demonstrate the values and Faith they gain through their Catholic education and learn how to make the world a better place. When they observe how others serve the community, they gain an appreciation for how they can continue to serve others their entire lives.
Dress code: Sports Day –Students and staff can come dressed in their favorite team jersey.
Inspiration and ideas: We will be inviting members in our community (police, fire, military and ambulance) to come to our school at 9:00a.m. in the school gymnasium. Guests are invited to talk about their professions. Students can write letters draw pictures or make posters thanking them for their service.
Thursday: Celebrating Families
Parents, guardians and other family members play a vital role in Catholic education. Not only do they volunteer at the school, they instill values and expectations for academic excellence in their children at home. We acknowledge the role of families in Catholic education and celebrate their contributions to the success of our schools all year long.
Dress code: Favorite Era- Students and staff can come dressed in their favorite era (50’s, 60’s, 70’s or 80’s).
Inspiration and ideas: Students, teachers, staff, faculty and families are invited to attend, “The Living Rosary” at 1:30. It will take about 30 minutes to pray and present. At the conclusion, a Rosary made of balloons will be released. We will share a Prayer for families.
Friday: Celebrating Faculty, Staff and Volunteers
Teachers are the backbone of Catholic schools. On this day, schools honor teachers, as well as administrators and staff who support teachers in their important work, and thank the parents, grandparents, alumni, and parishioners who provide volunteer service.
Dress code: Pajama Day- Students and staff can wear their comfy pajamas to school.
Inspiration and ideas: Recognize teachers, principal, staff on social media for their dedication and hard work. Thank the parents, grandparents, alumni, and parishioners on social media for their support. Teachers and staff can go home early!
