Miss Cleasby's 4K News

News for the week of October 22nd

Pumpkin Theme

Thanks to all of you who joined the 4K on our field trip to Schuster's Farm on Friday! The rain held out for the most part and it was a fun time for all. This week we will be starting a "Pumpkin and Spider" theme. Check out a few pictures of the field trip below!

Big Pumpkin

We will be reading the book Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman. We will be acting out and retelling the story all week. On Tuesday, the students will bring home pictures to retell the story to someone at home. Please ask your child to retell the story to you! This retell is different than others we have sent home. Your child does not need to say the exact words of the story rather they can just tell you the general story using the pictures of the characters.

Jolly Phonics

Our letter sound of week is "P". The Jolly Phonics action for the letter /p/ sound is to hold your finger as if it is a candle, and pretend to puff it out, saying p,p,p,p.

Click on the video below to hear/see the letter /P/ Jolly Phonics song:

Handwriting Without Tears

We are continuing to learn how to hold our crayon with a correct "tripod" grasp. We have learned a song called "The Crayon Song" which helps us "tell our fingers what to do". See the video below for an example of the crayon song. We will also be revisiting "Mat Man" and trying to draw him!

* There is NO SCHOOL this Thursday and Friday (October 25th and 26th).

*Next Tuesday, October 30th is our 4K fall festival. Students are welcome to wear a costume that day. Please make sure your child's costume is appropriate for school. (No weapons, swords, etc...) Also, please no masks or face paint. I sent home reminder slips last week for parents who signed up to bring a snack item for the party. Please let me know if you are unable to bring the item you are signed up for.

* Please send in your October reading log by November 1st. If your child met the 4K reading goal for October they can choose from a free kids meal from the Deerfield Pub and Grill or a free kids meal from Subway. Please mark on the log which reward they would like to receive.
