Instructional Excellence - Walkthrough Wednesday
As we continue to implement engaging, effective instruction, let's continue to find time to visit our colleague's classroom on Walkthrough Wednesday and learn something new to bring back to your classroom! We will be looking to perfect this school wide practice in the future!
Mr. Jordan visited Mrs. Cabrera on Walkthrough Wednesday!
Guzick Expectatations for Excellence in Instruction - Aggressive Monitoring
I am so extremely proud of our school wide implementation of Aggressive Monitoring after our PD session! Every Guzick Educator was not only receptive of the new instructional practice, but was willing to implement the practice with fidelity with hopes of making a positive impact on student academic success! Let's keep perfecting our implementation through ongoing collaboration, reflection, and making the needed adjustments to ensure our students are successful!
Here are a few reminders of the minimal instructional expectations of effectively implementing Aggressive Monitoring:
During student work time, the teacher will monitor student actions, provide students with intentional feedback, and collect qualitative data to inform instructional decisions.
For each lap of Aggressive Monitoring, the teacher will:
- Announce the purpose of each lap
- Provide written feedback to students using an established, easy-to-understand coding system
- Collect qualitative data to inform instructional next-steps (checklist)
PLC Meetings - ACP Review Planning - Tuesday, November 27, 2018
We will meet to collaborate around our ACP Review Plans to ensure that we are on track to meet the collective, and individual needs of our Guzick Giants heading into semester exams. Please bring the following to your PLC meetings:
- CIA Binders
- Instructional Planning Calendars/Lesson Plans
- Curriculum Planning Documents (i.e. ACP Blueprints)
See you in the PLC room 5 minutes after the start of your designated planning time.
ACTION ITEM: Tutoring or After School Student Club/Activity Cancellation Protocol
Teachers,
Please ensure that you follow the protocol below when cancelling tutoring. It is important that our front office is aware of any changes to tutoring for all teachers as parents typically call the front office to confirm changes.
24 hours in advance
- Send notice home to parents (via email, Class Dojo, letter, phone call, etc.).
- Send an email to Mrs. Mendoza and Mrs. Willis with the date of cancellation
Less than 24 hours in advance (extreme emergency)
- Make contact with all parents via phone (only email if this is the parent's 1st preference to receive contact)
- Send an email to Mrs. Mendoza and Mrs. Willis with the date of cancellation
REMINDER: PBIS System
As we continue to encourage positive student behavior, let us be reminded of a few teacher/staff expectations regarding the system.
- Remind students to show H.E.A.R.T. in everything that they do. Use the terminology and highlight students for exhibiting the positive H.E.A.R.T. characteristics.
- Students SHOULD NOT escort themselves or other students to the PAC center or main office. If a student receives their fourth infraction (yellow form), then the teacher should press the black button and an administrator or staff member will come to the room to retrieve the student.
- Students are only assigned to ISS or a cool off in the PAC center by an administrator.
Remember, CONSISTENCY is the key to ensure that our students understand the importance of being good students. Discipline with DIGNITY and with H.E.A.R.T.
REMINDER: Minimize Hallway Traffic
