Sunflower Book Fair Coming Soon!!
Dear Parents and Families:
Did you know? Reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to about 1.8 million words per year. Reading helps students develop a stronger vocabulary, and in addition, students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, mathematics, science, and history!
Mark your calendar to join us for a celebration of reading! November 13-20!
We'll be open late on Wednesday, November 14 for Family Night. We'll also be open Saturday morning, November 17, during the PTO Pancake Feed/Basket Auction!
Visit scholastic.com/fair for more information. We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair!
Sincerely,
Julie Rains
SE Librarian
Looking for a Few More Volunteers for the Book Fair!
Grandparents Day - Friday, November 16
Grandparents and grandfriends are cordially invited to attend Sunflower Elementary’s Grandparents’ Day!
An information brochure and RSVP form will be sent home in your child's backpack today.
If grandparents are planning to eat lunch with their grandchildren, we must have RSVP’s returned by November 7, 2018, in order to have enough food prepared.
If your child’s grandparents are not available to visit, don’t worry. We’ll make sure that all students get to spend time with a grandparent!
Both Front and Back parking lots will be open for grandparents. Please follow marked signs.
Grandparents are welcome to visit our Grandparents’ Lounge to sit, relax and have a cup of coffee if you have down time between activities.
The brochure/RSVP is also available for download below.

In Search of 4th Grade Musical Photos
We are always looking for fun pictures to use in the Sunflower yearbook. If you were in the audience at the 4th grade musical, AND took pictures of your student and their friends, would you be willing to send those pictures to me? You can email the pictures to me at jacobsc@usd231.com.
Sunflower Site Council Meetings 2018-2019
The Sunflower Site Council will be meeting at 6 pm in the library on the following dates: 9/11/18, 11/13/18, 2/5/19, 4/9/19.
All meetings are open to the public.
Kansas schools are required to establish site councils composed of the principal, teachers and other school personnel, parents, business representatives, and other community groups.
Site councils have a responsibility to provide advice and counsel in the following areas: evaluating district and school performance goals and objectives,
determining methods to meet those goals and objectives,
and other areas as requested by the board of education.
Remember, the work of the site council is advisory only;
it makes recommendations, not decisions.
