Whitford Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 8 - 31 March 2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to all members of our community who attended the opening of our Indigenous Learning Space and the P&F Movie Night. It was great to be present for the very moving welcome to country, story time, didgeridoo playing, dance and smoking ceremony. Thank you to the P&F for organising and supporting this excellent opportunity for our community.
We held our Easter Liturgy on Monday and our students led us reverently and prayerfully through the Stations of the Cross. This helps us to reflect on the true meaning of Easter and the journey of Jesus during Holy Week that led to his crucifixion. Whilst very sombre and confronting, it leads to Easter Sunday, the most significant time in the church calendar where we celebrate Jesus rising into heaven.
Tomorrow is the last day of the term. Term 2 will commence on Monday 19th April where students will be required to wear winter uniform. Wearing the uniform currently assists students to develop a sense of pride in themselves, their families and their school.
Interviews were recently conducted for the position of school nurse. Congratulations and welcome to Kate Turner who will join the Whitford Catholic Primary School team at the beginning of Term 2.
Thank you to the Beveridge family and their foundation “Paint me a Rainbow” for leading Autism Awareness Week at Whitford CPS last week. As well as promoting awareness of Autism, community information sessions were held, funds were raised that will go towards supporting students with autism in the broader community and also providing resources that will be used locally within our school.
Parent/Carer/Teacher interviews for students from PP-Year 6 will occur on Tuesday 4th May from 12noon to 6pm. School will close for all students at 12noon on that day. This enables parents/carers and teachers to discuss student progress and emphasise the partnership between home and school in developing each child to their full potential. A key factor in student learning is their own disposition to learning and for this reason, it is important to determine student successes and goals in this meeting. A booking form will be sent shortly.
Next term, provided the Covid situation remains stable, we will continue our regular drop off and pick routines. The 4b Covid Roadmap requires us to follow the two square metre rule.
The following procedures will continue to be in place:
- Classes from Pre-Primary to Year 6 open their doors at 8.30am.
- Pre Primary students may be dropped off at the classroom or on Barradine Way from 8.30am.
- Kindy doors open at 8.45am. Parents and carers are welcome to stay until 9.00am, however, please note that only 10 parents/carers may be in the classroom at a time. Please be aware of all families wishing to spend time in the classroom and share this time accordingly.
- Parents/Carers of all year levels may enter the classrooms. There is a limit of 10 parents/carers per class. If more than 10 parents/carers wish to enter the classroom, again please share this time accordingly.
- Parent/Carer rosters can begin from Term 2.
All parents/carers entering classrooms are required to:
- Sanitise their hands utilising one of the many dispensers around the school.
- Scan in on the SafeWA App.
- Maintain safe social distancing.
Interviews for 2023 Kindy places have commenced. There is significant demand for places at Whitford Catholic Primary School, so please ensure that if you or someone close to you is intending to send their child to our school in 2023, that an application form has been submitted to avoid missing out.
This has been a very successful term, and we have enjoyed welcoming families more consistently and frequently into the school environment. Families and staff have worked collaboratively to maintain a strong community at Whitford Catholic PS and to continue to create outstanding opportunities for our students. I would like to thank all students, families, staff and members of the parish for your outstanding contributions to our school this term.
Wishing you a happy Easter and safe, enjoyable holiday with family and friends.
Best wishes and God bless

Winter Uniform
Just a reminder that Term 2 and 3 is winter uniform. Girls need a navy blue tunic, white shirt and tie, with a winter jumper and boys the blue shirt, shorts or trousers, tie and winter jumper.
Legacy WA - ANZAC Day
In the lead up to Anzac Day there will be badges, bears and wristbands for sale to support Legacy WA. Legacy is an iconic Australian charity that was established in 1923 and founded on a promise made from one digger to another – to “look after the missus and the kids.” With that said, they look after the widows, widowers and their children of deceased Australian Military personnel.
Badges, bears and wristbands will be for sale in front of the school office every day before and after school in Week 1 of Term 2. Badges start from $2 each.
Thanks in anticipation of your support.

Project compassion stories – Week 6 (An Australian Icon)
For over half a century, generations of Australians have participated in Project Compassion – making it one of the nation’s longest running charity campaigns.
For many, Project Compassion’s iconic collection boxes have become a nostalgic part of their lives since 1965 – a reminder around home, school, church and the community that it’s time to support Caritas Australia’s annual appeal.
Margaret Moriarty can’t remember a time without a Project Compassion box in her house during Lent.
“Donating to poorer counties was very important to my mother and father. My children have grown up with the same iconic boxes in our home and my grandchildren are continuing the tradition,” Margaret says.
Throughout five decades of natural disasters, conflicts and crises, Caritas Australia has worked alongside vulnerable communities with the generous support of Australians. Project Compassion has also helped with access to education, health services, agricultural training and through programs that reduce maternal and infant mortality.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, local partnerships have helped Caritas Australia to respond quickly to minimise the spread of the coronavirus. This year, Caritas Australia has presented five stories from people striving to ‘Be More’ – just a few stories amongst the millions of people who have been helped through Project Compassion.
We would like to thank generations of our supporters nationwide for their ongoing generosity, which allows us to move forward with lifesaving strategies to tackle new challenges.
Please remember to bring your small boxes back to school this week and fill in the details on the box if you would like a receipt. Thank-you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Andrew De Maio
