Dear Parents:
As we continue into the second half of our school year, many activities and events fill our days with learning and opportunities for growth. A positive attitude with the right emphasis on effort and learning as the objective, versus any specific grade, makes a successful student. It’s not always the naturally gifted child who gets all “A’s” who goes on to do great things. Often, it’s the student who understands that continuous learning and sustained effort are keys to lifelong success. Through hard work and effort, students begin not only to realize their potential, but gain respect for the grades that they earn.
I look forward to observing the continual growth of your children. Great gains have been made on multiple levels here at Ebeling. In the areas of academics, our performance continues to be a point of pride within the Utica Community Schools. I have been reviewing and analyzing data and data sources, and our exemplary teaching staff has been utilizing this data to help drive instruction for each child so that individual gains can be made. Teachers continue to grow their skills as well, with continued trainings and workshops focused on our new math series, Math Expressions and professional development sessions focused on K-3 literacy. All indicators show that your children are making strides towards academic success.
One final note: our Kindergarten Open House - scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. is officially on the calendar. On this evening, children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1st, 2020, are eligible to register for kindergarten. Registration packets are available online and at our school; please call 797-4700 for more information.
Have a restful mid-winter break!

Requesting Bus Passes
Bus passes will be permitted if a bus has not reached capacity. Both students must submit a note before lunchtime from their parent to the Main Office. Transportation rules require that both of the students qualify for bus transportation. The signed note from the parent should include the student’s normal bus number as well as the bus number that they will be a visitor on. The pass can be picked up in the office by one of the students later in the day. We are sorry but last minute notes or calls home for forgotten notes cannot be permitted. Passes are not issued on half days of school.

How the 2020 Census Affects Children
The 2020 Census count impacts the federal funds that communities receive each year for programs and services that are critical for schools, students, and younger children, such as:
· Special education, Head Start, after-school programs, and classroom technology.
· Food assistance, including free and reduced-price school lunches.
· Maternal and child health programs.

CHILDREN PARTICIPATE IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Daily outdoor recesses are a valuable factor in promoting healthy classroom conditions. Children are expected to participate in recess activities so they should wear adequate outdoor clothing now that the weather is getting colder. This includes boots, hats and mittens. It is important that children learn to be prepared for changes in Michigan weather. All students will remain indoors for supervised recess if the weather is inclement. Factors used to determine indoor recess include rain, wind chill and playground conditions.
