TUTORING

WRITING TUTORING

Mrs. Akin will offer writing tutoring on Tuesday during lunch. This tutoring session is invitation-only. Mrs. Akin will use Write Score data as well as classwork performance to determine which students will be invited.

READING TUTORING

Mrs. Akin will offer reading tutoring on Thursday during lunch lunch. Specific students will be asked to join. However, this session is open to all students who feel they need additional support with reading comprehension.

MATH TUTORING

Mrs. Schirmer will offer math tutoring on Wednesday during lunch in place of after-school tutoring. All students are welcome.

WRITE SCORE

A few weeks ago students took the Write Score, an online writing assessment. Students read two passages, answered multiple choice and constructed response questions, and wrote an informational essay, using evidence from both texts. The Write Score is not scored by Mrs. Akin or anyone else at Jackson. Instead, each essay is hand-scored by professional essay scorers. This assessment helps us identify each writer's strengths and weaknesses. Scores will be sent home in Tuesday folders this week.

ELLIS ISLAND SIMULATION

In the weeks to come, students will be learning about the reasons people immigrated to the United States at the turn of the century. On Thursday, 11/9 students will take part in an Ellis Island Simulation from 11:15-12:45. In order to do this, we need parent involvement. If you are able to assist, please sign up using the link below. We truly appreciate your help, and ask that you arrive at 10:30 so that Mrs. Schirmer and I can train you.
