Kyle's Corner
- Everyone (students and adults) that will be involved in TNReady Testing will need to experience the Nextera platform. Students will be on the platform and adults will simply monitor students experience with logging in, navigating the platform, and submitting their practice test. Adults make sure you join one of these grave level classrooms:
- 6th Grade: March 18 @ 7:50 AM
- 7th & 8th Grade: March 18 @ 2:10 PM (students will report to 1st-period during Tribe Time)
- Students must submit their practice test. The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) is requiring that all students and adults have exposure to the Nextera testing environment. TDOE is verifying that this occurs by checking the submission rates of practice tests. If students do not submit their practice test, it will appear that we did not complete the Nextera exposure requirement. Make sure students submit their practice test.
- Students' login credentials for Nextera are in folders and sorted by first-period rosters. Students will use their individual login credential to access Nextera. Erika has placed folders teachers' mailboxes.
- Once students log in with their credentials, they will need to enter an access code. Access codes for this practice test are:
- 6th Grade: 6060
- 7th Grade: 7070
- 8th Grade: 8080
- You are encouraged to help students as they "test drive" the platform. This is a practice test with released items from the state. Because this is a practice test with released items, you can provide any level of assistance needed.
- To ensure that all adults involved with testing joined a classroom to observe Nextera online testing, I will be sending out a Google Form at the end of the day Monday, March 18 for everyone to complete. This will serve as our documentation that we have met the requirements set forth by the TDOE.
- Why are we doing this?
- Because the TDOE said so...
- And all students will be using the Nextera platform to take the operational TNReady Science Field test in April. Students need to understand and have exposure to the platform prior to the Science Field Test
- The attached "JSMS Nextera Picture Directions" is a good resource to use to understand the steps students will have to follow in order to access the Nextera platform via their Chromebooks.
- If a student does not have a login ticket, simply pair him/her up with another student so they can see the platform and observe the features.
- Jon Cleavland or Aaron Long will be in the tech office during both Nextera "Test Drive" opportunities. Please call the tech office if you have a student experiencing technical difficulties. If the tech is unable to resolve computer issue quickly, simply have the student pair up with another student so they can see the platform and observe the features.
- The proctor password is SpringBreak2019. This is for adult use only - students cannot have access to this password. If a student's screen asks for the proctor password, you will need to type the password in on the student's device. This will only be needed if a student becomes disconnected from the test.
- Questar and Nextera are one and the same. Questar is the testing vendor while Nextera is the platform.

Supervision Schedule
- It is an expectation that you will be at your duty at the assigned day and time. This is happening for the vast majority of you, but we have noticed that this can be an issue from time to time. We will be watching this more closely and will send an email directly to the teacher who is not on duty. Please be aware that this will be documented toward your professionalism at the end of the year.
- When you are absent, we need you to make arrangements to have your duty covered. Subs should not be covering your duty. A suggestions was made to work it out in advance with a partner teacher to cover for each other and to notify with a quick text when you are out. Whatever you plan, you need to make sure you have the duty covered. This also applied to lunch and hall/bathroom duty. All locations are essential for supervision and we will be held liable if there is not coverage due to negligence and an incident happens in that area.
- Morning duty is 7:15-7:35. Please make morning plans so that you show up on time and plan to stay until 7:35 at your duty location. Afternoon duty is 2:45-3:05. On duty days, you will need to plan to have a quick exit out of your classroom to be at your duty location on time.
I have included links to our duty schedules below for your reference. They are also available in the JSMS shared drive. It is the work of all of us that contributes to making Sevier a great place to work and a safe place for our students to learn. Thank you all for all that you do!
