GREEN ENGINEERING
2nd Grade Summer Academy - Mrs. Hall @ OES
What is an ENGINEER'S job?
An engineer's job is to SOLVE PROBLEMS! Engineers build and create technologies to solve problems. Let's share some examples.
Our First Engineering Challenge: Help Save Froggy!
What's our problem? How can we SOLVE the problem?
- Problem: Froggy is not safe! The alligators will eat him in the swamp if he is not out of their reach!
- Solution: Design & create a tower to keep him safe. It must be at least 10 inches tall!
Noah & Vincent share the ENGINEERING CHALLENGE at our NEWS STATION!

During the Engineer Design Process
Let's go over what some challenges we overcame during the Engineering Design Process.
Tall enough?
Noah and VIncent are in the process of engineering and need to see whether their tower is tall enough to keep froggy safe.

What are the 3 R's?
We learned about the 3 R's and how important they are to help the environment!
We also learned about a country in West Africa, Senegal, known for using cool ideas to recycle and reuse items to engineer toys and games !
Let's share our ideas:
How can we reduce?
Noah & Vincent have some ideas about REDUCING the amount of energy/ resources we use. CLICK ON THE BUTTON TO VIEW THE VIDEO!
What can we reuse?
Emily shares how she REUSES items to help the environment!
WE ARE RECYCLING!
Our ENTIRE CLASS has been recycling to gather items we can use for our engineering projects. We are GREEN ENGINEERS!!! Check out our RECYCLING STATION!
We are collecting data & graphing the amount of items we bring into school!
We have been collecting data on how many recycled plastic, cardboard & can items we bring in every day!
We have also been creating bar graphs which keep track of how many recycled items we bring in, and also have been practicing our word problem skills!
VIRTUAL TOUR
We took a virtual tour to a recycling center. We also visited an engineer who was making something!
