The focus during these meetings is to build connections with Willowbrook student mentors and ease the transition to high school. Jackson students will learn about Friday Connect by watching a video during Advisory and hearing from the club members during homeroom/mask break on November 19. The monthly meetings are voluntary and sign-up forms will be available for students interested in this opportunity.

Helpful Reminders at Home

Second quarter is well underway which means we have fully transitioned into our daily routines and the colder weather months are quickly approaching. We are asking for your partnership at home in supporting and promoting some important school reminders in order for us to maintain the overall health and safety of all students. Please remind your child of the following:
  • Dress for the weather. Even when the weather is cold, we will continue to be outside for lunchtime mask breaks whenever possible. Please refer to this presentation, shared with students, that outlines our inclement weather plans. Expect that your child will be outside daily and encourage your child to dress accordingly.
  • In addition to dressing warmly, please remind your child that midriffs, hoods, and hats are not allowed during the school day. Dress code expectations are outlined in the student handbook, which is available on the Jackson website.
  • Headphones are only allowed in class under specific direction by the classroom teacher. Headphones in hallways, the cafeteria, and other non-classroom locations are not allowed at any time.
  • All electronic devices, including cell phones, are expected to be powered off and out-of-sight.
  • Check that your child has two masks before leaving for school each morning. An extra mask is helpful in case one breaks during the day or your child wants to change his/her mask for some reason. This is also a good time to remind your child that masks should be worn properly, which means fitting securely over your child's nose, mouth, and chin.

Thank you for supporting these important reminders for your child at home. When we partner together, our students know exactly what is expected of them and are more successful in meeting school expectations.

A friendly reminder that it is the responsibility of a parent/guardian to contact Jackson in the event his/her child will be absent from school. Please plan to report your child’s absence, prior to 9:00 a.m., by calling our attendance line at 630-516-7368. Parents/guardians will leave a voicemail reporting their child’s absence. In the voicemail, please include the following information:

  • Reason for absence

Student absenteeism should be kept to the minimum; however, the School Board recognizes that some absences are unavoidable. The following are valid causes for a student's absence and will be considered “excused,” as specified in Section 26-2a of the Illinois School Code:

  • Illness

  • Observation of a religious holiday

  • Death in the immediate family

  • Other situations approved by the school principal
