Mrs. Nagy's 1st Grade Class
First grade ROCKS... Come be a star!⭐️
First grade out making their playground litter free!
It is hard to believe we are in the month of May! We have learned so much, and yet have so much still to do! Here's the low down on the next 23 days...but who's counting?
- April was National Poetry Month - Each day during the month of April, the children were given a poem to read and illustrate. We also wrote a few ourselves. Your child's poem book will be coming home on Monday. Please help your child choose a poem and work on reading it. On Friday, each child will be asked to read (or recite if they memorize it) to the class. Feel free to stop in, we will start our poetry tributes at 1:30. Then you are welcome to come with us to church for the Rosary.
- Rosary - During the month of May, the school will be heading to church at the end of the day on Friday to say the Rosary. If your child would like to keep a rosary in their backpack, we will continue to learn and talk about how to pray using one. Dismissal will be from church on Fridays.
- May child - During the month of May, we honor Mary by praying the rosary and bringing flowers for her in our classroom. A May child calendar should have come home in your child's folder last week (on blue paper). One boy and one girl will have the privilege of dressing in their Sunday best to honor our Blessed mother each day. They are welcome to bring flowers for her classroom altar, too! Any questions, please let me know!
- DIBELS - Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills The children were assessed last week on the DIBELS reading test. I will be sending the results home shortly. Hopefully our practice made the experience less intimidating:)
- Romeo and Lou - Romeo and Lou are out for a third round of visits. If your child chooses to participate, Romeo and Lou will be visiting for another time with your child. If you get a chance, take a look at the journal included...Romeo and Lou have had quite a few awesome adventures. A lot of fun for the children and the class.
- ARP The deadline for AR tests is May 19th. Children that are working towards the goal of 40 points have until this day to qualify for the luncheon to Luigi's. Please remind your children to sign up for their tests. Sometimes they have tests to take, but forget to sign up! Keep up the reading! Congratulations to Maya Carder, Emma Cross, Jack Yurechko, and Ryan Herold who have already qualified for the luncheon.
- Read to the class - The children have been doing such a fabulous job reading to each other at the reading corner. They are so respectful to each other and really seem to enjoy being the person leading the class. I will continue to allow them this opportunity to read.
- SCHOLASTIC book order - Coming home in your child's folder is the LAST book order for the year. This is a great opportunity to purchase some books for your child to keep them reading through the summer. If you would like to purchase, please visit the link below or send a check made payable to Scholastic to school by May 15th.
- Snack Chart - The LAST snack chart of the year should have been in your child's folder on Friday (on orange paper). We have 18 children in our class, please no peanuts or peanut butter. Thank you!
As we approach the end of the year here is a snap shot of some of the things we will learn and work on including: forces of matter, maps, fractions, writing stories, fact vs. opinions, plants, and nutrition.
I think that is all for now! Enjoy the wonderful spring weather!
