•• New & Important Information ••
New Communication Platform Starting January 23, 2023 Called Parent Square
Northshore School District is committed to continually evaluating and improving our communication services and supports for families and students.
We are excited to announce that the District has adopted a new communication tool called ParentSquare. This multilingual communications platform is designed to keep families, guardians, staff, and middle and high school students informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with our schools and the District. ParentSquare will go live on January 23, 2023 for the District, School Leaders, and Office Staff.
ParentSquare will provide families and students streamlined communications, responsive to your needs including, but not limited to:
- Communication in your preferred language;
- Messages from school(s) or the District via email, text, or app notification;
- Opportunity to receive information as it is sent, or all at once with a daily digest at the end of the day;
- Ability to reply to staff directly from a post (similar to social media) in the app;
- Direct messaging to staff; and
- Ability to sign up for conferences, sign forms, permission slips, and much more all from your mobile device or computer.
How to Get Started with ParentSquare
You can activate your ParentSquare account in three ways:
Option 1:
- Use the email (or text message if you do not have an email on file with the District) that is automatically sent to you by ParentSquare.
- Watch your email, because on January 9, families will receive an invitation from the sender ParentSquare, inviting you to join the platform.
- When you click the button that reads “Activate your account” in the email, you will be asked to create a password and login using the email address you have on file with the District.
Option 2:
Visit the ParentSquare website and use the email account or phone number you have on file with the District to activate your account; or
Option 3:
Download the ParentSquare app on your iOS or Android phone and request activation. To take full advantage of ParentSquare’s functionality we recommend everyone downloads the ParentSquare app for even easier access to school and District information.
Once you have activated your account, ParentSquare will connect you to your student(s) enrolled in Northshore schools. Registration is just that easy!
After you’re logged into your account, you can also access help articles for more information on navigating and using ParentSquare.
Need Help Activating your Account or Have Questions? If you would like assistance activating your account, district staff will be available to walk you through the steps needed during two ParentSquare Q&A sessions this month:
- Wednesday, Jan. 11, 6-7 p.m. on Zoom (https://nsd.zoom.us/j/85883034091?pwd=ZXp3dEpsSXVBenBuZnhzdTJRWUkyZz09)
- Tuesday, Jan. 17, 6-7:30 p.m. at the Northshore Administrative Center, 3330 Monte Villa Parkway in Bothell.
More information about ParentSquare and a FAQ (including an overview of Northshore student technology applications) can be found on our District website. Students will use StudentSquare within the new communication platform. Information about StudentSquare will be shared with families later this week and sent directly to your student.
We look forward to sharing more information and connecting with you on ParentSquare soon!

COVID update
The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. Over the past week, there have been a total of 3 confirmed cases at our school, but in two of these cases, the people were not at school at all last week. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings.
If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.

Cultural Fair
We are so excited to welcome everyone to Cottage Lake Elementary on January 26th from 5-7 pm for our first annual Multi-Cultural Fair. We will have 14 different cultures for you to learn about. Families will get a passport when they arrive and when you visit each table, you will get a special sticker to add to your passport that represents that culture. We will also have performances in the gym put on by various community groups. It is sure to be a rich and fun learning experience! La Riviera Maya food truck will be on site as a dinner option. We hope you can join us!
If you'd like to volunteer to help organize, setup or tear down the event please email culturefair@cottagelakepta.org.
Watch D.O.G.S
Some of you may know that we are launching Watch D.O.G.S. here at Cottage Lake Elementary in January.
Watch D.O.G.S. is a national organization of fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer at least one day during the year in their child's school. Cottage Lake Elementary is thrilled to have partnered with this program and help provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a greater sense of campus safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning and instruction. This can only be successful with the help of the ‘Dads’ Of Great Students in our community. Please encourage your spouse, dad, brother, etc to sign up using the following SignUpGenius.
Missoula Children's Theater
We have the amazing opportunity to bring back Missoula Children's Theatre this Spring! Missoula Children's Theater will be at Cottage Lake from April 17-22. This year it will lead about 60 students in the full-length musical comedy, "The Little Mermaid".
If your child thinks they would like to participate, please click here for more information. Please know your child must be available all week along to participate.
An important part of this activity is that we have the opportunity for one or two of our fabulous families to assist in hosting the fabulous directors. If you would like to host one or both of the touring directors or know of someone who would be interested in the accompanist position, please email president@cottagelakepta.org. We are excited to welcome back the Missoula Children's Theater to Cottage Lake this year!
