Community Update

August 12, 2016

Dear Community Members:

We are nearing the start of the school year, and there are a number of announcements for you.

For those of you who may be new to the area, the Pemberville Free Fair starts next Wednesday night and runs through next Saturday. I recently spoke with the Mayor of Pemberville, and they are very excited about this year's fair. I look forward to the fair every year for many reasons, but mainly to see former students and their parents. It is truly a homecoming type event!

Eastwood High School has scheduled their schedule pick-up and laptop pick-up days for August 18th from 7:30 am to 6:00pm and August 19th from 7:30 to 3:00pm. Lifetouch photos will also be available to take school photos and student ID pictures.

Students will also be picking up their student handbooks and turning in any forms on those dates. Fees will be able to be paid as well. If forms are completed earlier they can be dropped off to the high school office Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 3:00pm. If you have any questions, please contact the high school office at 419 833-3611.

Open House for the high school will be at 7pm on August 24th.

Eastwood Middle School has set their schedule pick-up days for August 17th and 18th from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Fifth Grade Orientation is set for August 22nd at 6:00pm.

Open House for grades 6-8 will be on August 24th at 6pm.

All new HS students, incoming 8th graders and their parents need to attend a mandatory meeting regarding district issued laptops. The meetings will be held August 23rd at 9:00am and August 24th at 5:00pm. Meetings will be held in the Middle School cafeteria. At the conclusion of those meetings and upon payment of $25 insurance assessment, the student will be issued their laptop.

This year we have purchased the Asus Flip Chromebook which has a touch screen and can function like a tablet as well as a laptop. It will be different in that it does not use Windows, but they are very functional with a much better price point. Those who have used them have had high praise for the devices.

The Eastwood Girl’s Basketball team is selling “Eastwood Pride” t-shirts as a fundraiser. They are not sports or year specific which is very nice. The sale has been extended to August 20th.

Vincent Slack (2nd grade at Luckey elementary), has launched his annual JDRF fundraiser. To date, Vincent has raised more than $3000 using his drawing talents to create and sell his unique, walk tee shirts. He won the JDRF of Northwest Ohio's Best Tee Shirt Design" award two years in a row! All profits go directly to JDRF, which funds research to cure Type 1 diabetes.
