HES List Server Message
April 28, 2017
Hello Holland Elementary Parents,
As you may know, this is my first year at Holland Elementary School, and I know that I’m privileged to work in such a fantastic community. In addition to wonderful children and their families, I am teamed with such amazing people on the HES staff. I’ve worked in many schools, and so I know that their talent, energy, and professionalism are absolutely at the top.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week in our school district and across the country. Your child is a beneficiary of the expertise and efforts of the HES, and I encourage parents to take a moment to send a message of gratitude to one of your child’s teachers. The folks on the HES staff are excellent educators and even better people, and I’m sure that they would appreciate a brief message from parents. Thanks.
Reminder: PSSA Science Testing for Students in Fourth Grade - Next Tuesday and Wednesday
HES Proud!
Here are some pictures below that we tweeted out this week...
On Friday, all classes at Holland Elementary will participate in the Jared Box Project as part of our recognition of the Travis Manion Foundation’s Operation Legacy. The Jared Box Project is a service learning opportunity for our students to give back to the community, specifically to young patients at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
We just learned that The Travis Manion Foundation will be providing t-shirts to all of the students and staff to wear for this activity, and the t-shirts were sent home with students on Wednesday. We did our best to identify the sizes of children on short notice, so you may find that the shirts could run big or small. If your child would prefer not to wear this shirt, he/she can wear a Holland (or blue) t-shirt.
Holland Elementary classes will create Jared Boxes to be distributed to children who receive treatment at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. Each Jared Box is filled with games, toys, stuffed animals, and activities. The boxes symbolize the importance of play and are filled with well wishes, hope, and love. Last year Holland Elementary delivered over 300 boxes to St. Christopher’s.
The students will work in pairs to collect items for the box that they will design and fill. A list of suggested donation can be found at the following LINK. All items you donate need to be small enough to fit in a shoe box; no food items may be included.
