From The Principal's Desk
Tēnā koutou katoa,
A warm welcome to Term 4, which gets underway with the usual busy menu of learning experiences and events for the children, the details of which will be on their way home on our Term 4 'Fridge List'. As ever, it was fantastic to see the whole school back together at our welcome assembly this morning, with plenty of energy and smiles on display to help set a positive tone for the weeks ahead.
High on the agenda this term is, of course, the annual TPS Gala, which is a fantastic opportunity to bring the whole community together in support of our school. It is always an amazing day to be a part of, and the Gala team are working hard to ensure another memorable and successful event on Saturday, November 14.
The learning gets underway this term with our Concept of "Communication". This will have a strong focus on writing, and particularly on exploring ways in which ideas can be conveyed to create meaning and have an effect on an audience. The essential questions the children will be reflecting on during their inquiry into the Concept include:
- How do we communicate with others?
- Why do we communicate?
- What makes communication effective?
Highlights this term to look out for include the Kapa Haka Wānanga Day, Interschool Football, Year 6 Waterwise, the 2015 APPA Choir Concert at Auckland Town Hall, Ukulele Festival, Junior and Interschool Athletics days, Year 6 end of year Graduation and the popular 'Celebration of Learning' open days across the school. Congratulations are also in order for an excellent performance from our National Chess Team Finalists during the break and also a significant success for Luke, Eero, Christian and Scott's Year 6 'Future Problem Solving' team, who have made it through to the National NZ FPS Finals.
And so, with plenty ahead to look forward to, I'd like to welcome you back once again and wish you a happy and productive final term of 2015.

**URGENT HELPERS NEEDED FOR TOMORROW ONWARDS
HAVE YOU GOT A SPARE 3 HOURS A TERM OR KNOW OF SOMEONE ELSE WHO CAN HELP PLEASE? (Nanny/Au pair, Neighbour, Grandparent, Relative…) We need to fill about 50 spaces for this term and urgently need to get a roster set up starting tomorrow.
If you would love to give back to Titirangi School and can volunteer for 1 or more sessions for the term we need 4 helpers every session to make our PMP programme run successfully with manageable group sizes of about 5 children. This programme is awesome and shows improvement in children with their balance, co-ordination, self-confidence, eye tracking and memory through using this programme which further enhances their learning. These skills are crucial to setting up children with great skills for starting school and learning.
Where? In the school hall
When? Tuesday and Thursday mornings 8.55-11.45am
Who? Lovely volunteers like yourselves, a teacher and their Year 0-1 class.
Many helpers are working parents and don’t have children involved in the programme.
How do you help? Stand at one station in the school hall, read your activity card and guide and praise the children. (The activity is very simple like crawling, throwing bean bags, jumping in hoops etc)
How do you sign up? Go to http://vols.pt/xo2qr6 , click on the month you want to sign up for and please do as many sessions as you can. Click on save after choosing your spots. It’s really easy! Contact me on the details below if you are having trouble.

A big shout out for any parent who could lend the school a large BBQ for the Gala. We need 3 in total. Also, any large gazebos and sturdy trestle tables. We need about 8 of each.
We are collecting Jolly Jars, full bottles of any kind for the Bottle Auction and grocery items for the Trolley Raffle.
Thanks everyone for all the support you are giving us and the School.
