The Oil Business
By:Tanner Lee
John D Rockefeller
The oil industry grew rapidly in the late 1800's. One method Rockefeller used to build his empire was horizontal integration-combining competing firms into one corporation. In 1839 Rockefeller made a fortune from oil. When he was 26 years old him and his partners set up an oil refinery- a plant to process oil in Cleveland Ohio. One plan of his was to dominate the oil industry. He found most of the oil. The empire produced and used it own tank cars, pipelines and its own wooden barrels.Rockefeller also had an monopoly-almost total control of a single producer.
The government started responding to the growth of oil business. Because of how much we were using. The government passed law to restrict it.
